I visited a famous omurice restaurant and here is my review of the experience.
Firstly, there was a line to get into the restaurant, but fortunately, it moved quickly. The restaurant had plenty of seats, but there were also a lot of people waiting, which created a sense of pressure during the meal. I felt like I needed to eat quickly to avoid inconveniencing others who were waiting.
The restaurant had an English menu available, which was a plus as not all Japanese restaurants offer this option. I ordered the recommended beef omurice meal with a liter of dark beer.
In terms of the food, I thought it was okay. While everyone has different tastes, my cup of tea wasn't particularly noteworthy. However, I did enjoy the over-easy egg that spilled out when I cut into the omurice and the sauce they provided. Unfortunately, the beef wasn't the best combination with the omurice as it was overwhelming my palate.
One other thing that I didn't enjoy was the ketchup-cooked fried rice which was a bit soggy.
Overall, while the experience wasn't perfect, the English menu and quick service were appreciated. If you're a fan of omurice, it might be worth checking out, but keep in mind that the beef and ketchup-cooked fried rice might not be to...
Read moreCame to this place to try the famous omurrice where you cut it down the center and it falls open on top of the bed of rice. Pretty pricey for a regular order, around $14. They have another type of omurrice where you can add a meat sauce, which was $2 more. That one seemed to be the popular dish people were ordering. The rice part is delicious in that they add chopped chicken with the ketchup rice. I could eat the rice all the time. The restaurant had a very western feel to it, but there was no one who spoke English. One waitress knew juust enough and with my little knowledge of Japanese we were able to order the omurrice dishes. I think the insider report or whichever foody post over-hyped this place. Maybe because it was more than what I wanted to spend for omurrice, but I wasn't too impressed. I would probably only come back if I'm with friends who...
Read moreI've got mixed feelings about this place. No doubt this is a very popular place with lines that start before the restaurant opens. If you miss the first window of seating, you have to wait another 30-45 minutes as the next batch. The most popular dish appears to be their omurice, specifically #5 which is an egg that you filet open upon receiving it and butterflying it outwards to expose the creamy egg inside. I ordered the #4 (egg w/ prawn) but I could see there's a clear difference with #5 and the way the egg was cooked. #5 is definitely the better of the two dishes. Great at first bite, but half way through the accumulation of the egg, the rice, and the ketchup became too much and I got tired of eating it. It's a dish I'd recommend splitting in half w/ somebody else as the whole thing seems to...
