京料理 — Restaurant in Uji

Had an early dinner of cold green tea-flavored soba with tempura while my wife had tempura domburi (over a bowl of steamed white rice) with a small cup of hot udon soup. We went up to the 3/F to sit at low tables (reminded me of lower primary) looking out towards the Uji river. As it was after sunset and quite dark, there wasn’t much to be seen. Even the Uji bridge which had lanterns lit along its span was barely visible from where sat. The restaurant owners had lit from below the flowering Sakura tree right in front of the restaurant that made for interesting photographs. Food was good and filling. Service...

Lovely tradional Japanese restaurant with views of the Uji river and mountainside. Take off your shoes to walk on a tatami floor and indulge in a bento feast of tempura, sashimi, soba and an assortment of Japanese food delicacies. Yes, the food is a little pricey and of average quality, but was good enough for me and I really enjoyed eating while looking out on the river three stories up which is typically hard-to-come-by in Japan. It’s a sign when you’re the only one there….granted I came looking for a late lunch and this was the only store that was open. Ordered the set A tempura set and it should have been a sign when it took only a few minutes to prepare the dish.

They fried the tempura hours ago and give you tempura that’s been sitting in the oven until a fool orders it. It is actually an insult to pay nearly 2000 yen for a reheated meal. I mentioned this to the cashier and she only apologized.

Do not come here as you will regret...
