Great matcha spot in Uji! The matcha was high quality and tasty. They have a large menu with a lot of matcha treats that look delicious. My husband got the lemonade and I got the matcha latte. It was very strong and flavorful and the right amount of sweetness.

The shop is owned by a matcha tea farming family, and they close the store front during harvest season to focus on the tea farm. It shows they are dedicated to providing high quality matcha and not just a tourist trap.

Also one of the owners studied in the US and speaks very fluent English. He was very easy to talk to and answered all of my questions about match and tea farming. I asked which matcha I should buy for lattes and he gave me an honest answer and did not trying to upsell me the most expensive one!

This cute cafe serves a variety of matcha drinks and desserts. The staff were friendly and welcoming, especially to foreigners. Atmosphere was nice, wasn't too loud. We tried the hot matcha latte, matcha chocolate croissant, and matcha parfait—everything was delicious. The croissant came warm with melty matcha chocolate, the latte had great flavor (not too sweet or bitter), and the parfait was excellent. You order at the counter and then take a seat. Uni Kyoto is famous as matcha tea and others so we went to Gochio Cafe due to its good ratings. This place is very neat, employees are polite and pleasant, and the dessert is incredible! It’s a combination of matcha ice cream, matcha cakes, red bean (paste) and some others. They made it so presentable and tasty! Besides, the owner came to our table and made hot matcha tea for us! While he was doing it, he introduced himself, his family history and their matcha tea farm. And most important, he cared about our feedback!
