It was my second time in Uji, but my siblings' and mom's first time. I wanted them to enjoy their time in Japan. I never had an experience where, because I'm a foreigner, I would be given only an English menu with significantly higher prices. My mom loves scones, so when we were passing by, she saw the fresh sweet black soy bean scones that were advertised around 700-800 yen. When we were seated, we were provided with menus that show a small scone costs 1,100 yen. The café did not state up front that they would have a service fee or mandatory "one drink per person" service. By the time we were seated and ordered light desserts and told this, it felt too late or rude to request their regular Japanese menu with honest pricing or leave. We were respectful and viewed it as an opportunity to try various teapots of tea. The desserts were delightful, and we're grateful to see how the hot cakes were made with patience. We just couldn't help thinking throughout the experience and as we left...
Read moreI had an unfortunate experience during my recent visit. As a regular customer, I’ve always appreciated the quality offered here, even though the prices are on the higher side. However, this time, the situation was disappointing.
When I attempted to pay, the store’s QR code payment system was not working. I asked the staff for assistance, but her response was minimal—she simply said she didn’t know and did not offer further help.
Additionally, my order was not packed while I was trying to resolve the payment issue. The staff remained at the counter without providing any support or guidance. I eventually paid in cash, but the overall experience was uncomfortable.
I hope the store can consider improving staff training in handling payment issues and customer support to ensure a more consistent and welcoming experience for...
Read moreWe found this place while walking around and it looked nice. We asked for matcha tea (it's Uji so you expect it), they said they didn't have it and started laughing at us speaking in Japanese without thinking that one can understand. I said I was allergic to certain ingredients, and they used those ingredients. The prices were unclear and we ended up paying way more than the menu stated; they take advantage of people with an unclear menu. The pancakes were good but the price, the service and the atmosphere were really annoying. Probably the worst experience I've ever...
