Kyogamo Kitchen Zen — Restaurant in Uji

It is not common to come across a fusion cuisine specialising in duck. But people don’t come here just for the novelty. People come here because this place makes delicious burgers, gyoza and curry rice.

The food is modern but does not feel out of place: the ingredient combinations in their signature burger is thoughtfully put together to bring out the flavour of the duck while negating its fattiness with fresh crispy chives. The tempura served with rice is coated in a duck egg yolk batter which adds a level of richness.

If you have space in your backpack, don’t hesitate to purchase some of their boutique packaged goods by their front counter...

Stumbled upon this shop during our trip to Uji. The duck burger exceeded our expectations, including the cheese. Gyoza and fries were average - fries weren’t hot and crispy and Gyoza was ok with more fillings than other stores we’ve been but the star is definitely their burger. It’s a small store with only 6 indoor counter seats that will make you smell but I guess it’s worth the smell if the burger is that good? Definitely a place to try for a duck burger!

Visited this place since it was one of the only restaurants open during the holidays. I ordered the double duck burger combo (+ cheese, fries, and drink) for 1600 yen, and my girlfriend ordered the duck keema set for 1400 yen.

I was astounded by how juicy the burger was. It was oozing with flavor and paired very well with the mountain of green onions. The fries were good too.

Overall, it was a very unique experience, especially if you're a foreigner craving a burger! I think it's a little pricey, but...
