Checking in ahead of schedule, they nicely accommodated a wished- for room change and gave me Room 716, with twin single beds. I had bicycled in, and they gave me an indoor, locked room in which to keep my bike, very thoughtful and helpful. Throughout my three- day stay, the staff at the Front were great. The staff make the hotel, and these folks were super. They also had received a couple of large pieces of luggage from Yamato which were sent for me to ship my bike back, and all was in order, much appreciated.||The room is about 20m2 and has the classic Dormy Inn touch: well- styled, efficient, good amenities, good bedside reading lights and mains outlets. The desk - well, maybe not deep enough for most of its length for the whole thing to be called a desk – is a good 3m / 10 feet long, with a second shelf running for 2/3 of the length under the top surface – plenty of room to store all kinds of things and several large bags underneath, too. That’s a very welcome feature not often found in most JP hotels. There’s a doorless closet with lots of hangers. The sink is next to it, across the entry hallway from the toilet and shower room (no tub.)||The bedding was very comfortable and the window kipped open for fresh air. The neighborhood has little traffic so it’s very quiet, even with the window opened.||Breakfast was excellent, and the items changed a bit from day to day. The staff were very friendly and helpful, always hustling to keep everything neat and tidy. It was a nice mood there at breakfast.||A good onsen is a Dormy Inn hallmark, and this property is no exception. Located on the top floor, 10F, there are separate men’s and women’s onsen. Inside the men’s, there’s a sauna, a hot bath and a cold bath. Outdoors with a bay view is another hot bath with all- natural rocks. In addition, there are three washing machines, no charge; Y100 per 20 min for the clothes dryers.||There was not a towel bar in the bathroom, except in the shower itself – which would have caused a totally soaked towel. The shelf over the toilet served to keep the towel dry and reachable, though. The internet was really s- l- o- w the whole time, so slow that some pages timed out before loading. I had so many timeouts that I deferred some of the web work I was doing until the next hotel. This is unusual at a Dormy Inn.||All in all, it’s an excellent place to stay – I will return there when I return...

Read moreThe hotel is. Conveniently located very near JR Wakkanai Station. Pretty much everything you need to make your stay comfortable is available. The staff is very helpful too, providing information on buses and such so you can do your touristy things. The breakfast is also very delicious and fresh with a relatively good selection of food, mostly Japanese. They also offer a complimentary hot bowl of late night noodles which is really nice for chilly nights and when there's hardly anything else in town. The onsen inside the hotel is also very nice and hot. There is also an "outdoor" onsen which you can enjoy under the moonlight. For women, they have brushes and moisturizers and lotion to keep your self moisturised after your soak. You can also do your laundry for free, but you'll have to pay (coin-operated) for the dryer. The laundry soap smelled nice too. Inside the hotel there's also drink vending machines at every floor. If you want to buy a lot in one go, there are available plastic bags that you can use. It feels like everything you need is considered.
The fact that it is so close to the train station means you don't have to worry about arriving late or leaving very early in the morning. If you want to take a trip to Tokyo from Wakkanai, the train leaves at 6:36 am. Breakfast is served from 5:30am so you can have plenty of time to eat and walk to...
