I’ve heard the craze about this place from a few friends … adjust your expectations knowing that this is Mexican food in Japan. Yen only payment, English only menu, workers speak English & are friendly. Takeout only and it’s not fast food, made to order so it can be timely when busy. The Birria taco plate is our go to, I pay for extra cilantro … the tacos are packed with a solid portion of meat, it’s tender and flavorful … the birria consomé is good, not great … but for Japan’s standard, it’s appreciated!
My only complaint is a place called Jalapeños should have fresh raw sliced jalapeños or quality pickled ones … not just the soggy ones from the jar. The chicken quesadilla is delicious … our young kids devoured it, no onions or cilantro with the mild sauce. We will continue to return here …
I personally don’t mind the price, unless you make your own at home … show me a better quality/flavor of Mexican around this area …...
Read moreI live in Tokyo and would drive down to Yokosuka just for this!!! Spent the day in Kamakura and swung by to see Yokosuka as it’s been couple years. Ideally wanted to go to a restaurant but really nothing, especially with a 2yo! Found this Tex-max hole in the wall and decided to grab their take-out! Price was pretty cheap so didn’t hold back on ordering and wasn’t expecting anything special or big portions… the Burrito was at least 1kg and could feed two people!!! The Birria plate was well sized too! However, the flavor and quality of everything was unbelievable!!! 10/10! Loaded burrito, loaded Birria (almost too much meat lol) super loaded Nachos!! For cost performance I believe this has been my best experience for my 8 years in Japan!!! I live in Tokyo and and am complete foodie! What a find!!!! I wish this place all the success it deserves and can’t wait to come back! Ps- great...
Read moreI used to love coming to Jalapeños. It had that spark — bold flavors, lively energy, and a menu that delivered every time. But now? It just feels like a shell of what it once was.
The Barrio Tacos, which used to be dripping with juicy, unforgettable flavor, were bone dry this time around. No punch, no richness — just meat in a tortilla with no soul. The flautas? Bland and lifeless. Not crispy, not flavorful — just... disappointing.
What hurts the most is the steady decline. Every time I return hoping for a better experience, I’m met with more of the same: inconsistent service, fading quality, and a lack of care in the kitchen. There’s no passion behind the food anymore, and it shows.
Jalapeños once had something special, but now it feels like they’re just going through the motions. I want to love this place again, but they have to give...
