La Taverne — Restaurant in St. Helier

We went to La Taverne on warm recommendation from a nice and chatty gentlemen who we met at the Jersey Zoo reception. We visited lunchtime, and it was quite busy, but managed to get a table for two without having had booked. My partner ordered Scallops with Pancheta and I went for Tagliatelle with Seafood. My Tagliatelle came with the sauce quite dried out on the surface of the dish. Most probably due to the plate spending a bit longer on the pass, under IR lite, than necessary. Apart from the appearance that resulted in pasta been pushed a bit over what would be considered al dente, but luckily still not overcooked to the point of falling to pieces. Another niggle was underseasoning and not an enormous amount of flavour. The plate would've benefited greatly from touch if salt, and a little bit of garlic would've gone a long way. The seafood was excellent, though. King prawns, prawns, muscles and even a scallop, were all absolutely fresh and succulent. My partner's scallops wrapped in panchetta looked really nice on the plate, and she was delighted with, both, textures and flavours. Service was timely, efficient...

Were given menus then had a very long wait to order some wine while we perused the menu. Then after our starters had been cleared they forgot our main course, two gentlemen came in after us and they got their main course a long time before us, our friend kept trying to catch someones attention as she was facing towards the upper level where all the staff were, but they just kept ignoring us. WHEN she finally caught their attention and when our main course came out all the Waitress said was " its very busy" No Excuse to actually forget to bring out our main courses, obviously there was a problem in the kitchen! They could have at least been honest and apologised! It was as if we were on "the forgotten table" ! IF you do try do not sit on the table on the lower floor to the right of the steps facing inwards. Great staff who couldn't be more attentive and efficient but with great humour and friendliness without being intrusive Food was both extensively varied and delicious! So much to choose from! There were 5 of us (some with allergies) but that wasn't an issue We had dishes as diverse as 2 types of moules, vegetarian, fish platter including: bream, bass, salmon & king prawn, fillet steak & different pasta dishes All cooked perfectly to exact specifications👌🏽👏🏾👌🏽👏🏾👌🏽 All-in-all a fabulous evening!
