Ambo Gardens — Restaurant in Nairobi

The good: Food portions are laaarge. I carry home my goat dry fry and still consume it over the next 2 days. Still cooked and tastes great 9yrs later.

The bad: Been coming here for the last 9yrs and I can tell you how I have literally watched the place transform. Used to be popular with prompt wait staff, had way better outdoor seats than what they have now. And food didn't take over an hour and half to be served back then like does now.

I was here last sometime in March 2024, and boy oh boy, a lot left to be desired. At least the only positive take home was that the food tasted great. But that's about it. It came 1hr 40min later vs the 45min we had been told. The beer came 20min later. We were only 2 tables the entire afternoon on a Saturday. And we felt like the staff were literally avoiding us the patrons. I'm never one to complain nor expect heaven on earth but man, this one was definitely noticeable 😂. This is it...Tye ultimate weekend chill point... The ambience is amazing.... beautiful gardens.. perfect for lunches and down gets even better as the sun sets..the service is absolutely great...Oh and their food ..let's not get started..it's scrumptious..Gotta try the Nyama choma .. matumbo.. mutura and every dish is made with attention and perfection...not many places are convenient for dining alone but you are sure bound to enjoy every bit of this beautiful gardens...the wine variety .the hygienic facilities make this a must visit...while in Nairobi... convenient for both public transport as well as personal cars...I guarantee you too will give it a 5 star... perfect for parties...and weekend...

A good place to spend an afternoon in the serenity of Lavington. Love the fact that you don't pay extra if at all you need to cut a cake in celebration of something, this is something most restaurants take advantage of. The ambiance is very nice and the pricing is fair given its location. Lush green spaces with outdoor seating coupled with good mood lighting lift the atmosphere here. However, extremely slow service and the poor quality of their choma deduct much needed points in their book.
