Dont you even consider ordering their disgusting sushi. The Japanese owner is an utter nuisance, rude and a pathetic person with no p. R skills. Was going to order another dish since his sushi was disaster and he was so infuriated when i brought it up that he told us we are not to order anything else from his third rated restaurant. The sushi seemed stale and we had to return it. Their food was good few years back but now i would consider it the worst restaurant joint we have gone to in Nairobi. Be warned this is not a place you would want to dine at.
Ps. I am sure the owner will respond. I thought you bragged no one complained about how smelly and yucky your sushi was. I am just reading the reviews they echo my sentiments. We spent around 3800sh on the rest of the items. Imagine around 3 hopeless pieces of smelly tofu costs over 700 or 800sh. First of all this Japanese man needs to sort out his attitude, and also his food. With that tongue of yours i assure you Your restaurant will soon have to close down. You did us a favor by not letting us order anything else, perhaps you knew your low standards would be exposed even further. I went to a better restaurant where customee service and food supercedes...
Read moreDrove past the restaurant and i was intrigued; so Googled, saw the reviews & made a plan to visit. I visit restaurants for food 1st, service 2nd & ambiance last. Tokyo delivered on the 2nd & 3rd; staff was courteous, waiter was helpful and the location, layout and ambiance of the restaurant was good.
Now the food... It was a failure. The menu had a lot of (unnecessary) choices and Lavington prices to match. When the food arrived, it looked like a lot of meat (which i like), but it was mostly overcooked, greasy vegetable masking the minimal amount of greasy meat pieces. The accompanying rice bowl was so small, it could be finished in a few spoonfuls. The drinks were okay but couldn't make up for the overall meal.
We did not finish the food. Got it as a take-away, took it home, removed the pointless vegetables and re-cooked the remaining meat with some instant noodles. Yes, instant noodles... and it was tastier.
Its not my 1st time eating at a Japanese restaurant, but it was my guests 1st time and we both left feeling equally disappointed.
It seems most "high-end" restaurants in Nairobi focus on offering great ambiance & service but inferior food... Literally the reason restaurants...
Read morehands down my favorite spot! We come here so often! Very tough to find a consistent restaurant but Tokyo nails it. Incredible vegetarian options. Highly recommend their tofu dishes, I don’t know what they do but the tofu is 10/10! The Mochi & Dessert section in general are soo yum! Another top is the variety of teas they serve, I mean wallnut, almonds & dates 🤩 As for non-vegetarian my partner really loves: crab in ginger sauce, ostrich dish and the pork ramen! We both enjoy the steamed dumplings and sweet potato noodles for starters. The owner/ chef is an absolute gem, always greets us and asks for feedback, he is also open to feedback and really loves engaging with his customers. The service is excellent as well, the only thing I would advise is that perhaps the trainee staff should have a name-tag that says “trainee” as the guests will be more forgiving if they do not know the menu items too well. The veteran...
