It may look like your average neighborhood hotel by the road, but @thesocialhousenairobi is anything but!
I wandered in with the Mr. and was immediately greeted by the friendly staff and the incredible interior design 👌 The restaurant was filling up quickly, but we managed to snag a table since, he had made a reservation earlier in the week.
We went for their Sunday Brunch deal which is a main meal + 2 cocktails for 2500/= pp. They also offer a complimentary starter for the guests as they wait for their meals.
Soup of the day was Salmon Soup. It's a clear soup with this robust salmon taste.
We ordered the Asian tangy Pork Ribs with fries and Rib Eye steak with Mashed potatoes.
The ribs were little bombs of perfection, patience and a little bit of love. Loved how the pork fell off the bone. The ribs were flavorful(a sweet and tangy filling) tender and juicy. Best ribs I've ever had!!!! The fries were amazing, crispy, well seasoned with a cheesy sauce on top. The fries master approved them 😊 these were good!!! For the Rib Eye we went for medium to well doneness. And for the first time, I heard him say, ''leo staki chicken, I want sth different" We are always skeptical ordering for steak, coz who wants to be fighting with a tough steak on a plate on a perfect date 🤷 First lemme recommend how juicy the steak was!! The meat was soft and tender 👌 Maybe would have gone a little extra with the rub/seasoning but the sauce complimented it, which was still perfect! The mash was packed with great consistency, creamy and buttery. The food was well presented, good portions for the pork ribs, the rib eye portion looked small, but was filling!!
They offer Gin and Vodka based cocktails. So we each had rounds of each. First round we couldn't feel the booze 😅 and so we requested for a little more on the second round, but for that they charge for an extra shot. Decided to do the second round of cocktails without the ice cubes and less of the syrup, but they were still very mild.
The server, host & hostess were very friendly and professional. Their service is top notch. @thesocialhousenairobi is perfect for fine/dress up dates and also for group...
Read moreI booked a balcony room about three months ago for one night stay Nairobi prior to a Safari. At the time of booking I emailed the hotel to state that my flight arrived early and would it be possible to get an early check-in. I was advised that this is subject availability which is fair enough and if you want to guarantee an early check-in you would need to pay for the room the night before. Given that I would be arriving at about 8 am in the morning this would seem a little bit unfair to pay a full rate for the previous night.
A few days before my arrival I emailed the hotel again and then they said there is $100 early check in fee which I was not previously advised about. The hotel then said there was a technical issue with the room I booked so they had upgraded me to a bigger bedroom. However, this bedroom did not have a balcony and was not an upgrade. The hotel then said that I would have to pay $450 to reserve the room for the previous night to guarantee an early check-in. The room rate I paid was about $250 and they were going to charge me for the upgraded room rates which I did not even ask for. I sent several emails to them which was a delay in responding and I also called them on WhatsApp and they never picked up the phone. I just cancelled my reservation the day before.
I think the hotel needs to be clear and transparent about their charges. I also think the communication is quite slow and poor. To charge somebody $450 to use a room for six hours seems grossly excessive and completely unfair.
After this situation any decent hotel would’ve said no problem, will get you to check in early if possible and not charge for $450
I’m sure this hotel is nice when you arrive, but I think the communication was an issue and therefore I cancelled my...
Read moreThis morning I visited The Social House, as I have done many times before to work and relax throughout the day. I planned to enjoy breakfast, lunch, and a productive work session. However, my experience took a disappointing turn that left me feeling both disrespected and frustrated. I was stopped at the entrance by a guard for carrying my own water bottle (a simple and sustainable habit that I value). I was told that I wasn’t allowed to bring my bottle because the hotel insists on selling water in-house.
Then I was made to go to the reception to discuss the matter. I assumed they would say something like, “Sorry, of course you are allowed with your bottle,” but they enforced the policy. They explained it was due to the restaurants selling water. I pointed out that water is recognized as a basic human right by the UN, and I even asked if they had considered the consequences of their actions in subjecting a regular customer to such an experience.
This incident completely ruined my morning and removed any desire I had to stay for the day. Banning personal water bottles is not only absurd but also seems like a blatant disregard for customer service. The policy is forcing loyal customers like me into a situation where I feel very uncomfortable, and it’s making me write a bad review.. The Social House is losing a customer here, and I now feel unwelcome, which is truly disheartening since I used to like this place.
I sincerely hope management reconsiders this rigid approach. A more customer-friendly policy, such as offering free refills, would better reflect modern values, sustainability, and respect for basic human rights.
Until then, I can’t see...
