I'm giving Younes a 3 stars review because a visit there has a fifty-fifty chance of going either way: remarkably magical or disappointingly average.
The problem with hand crafted signature coffee "cocktails" is that there a large margin of error to be had. The formula is too complicated sometimes for baristas to produce regularly. When you have several types of beans, with varying ways of brewing, coupled with different measures of additional stuff, you are asking too much of your barista.
If you're the simple formula kind of person who would like a straight forward pot of Turkish coffee, or an unassuming espresso, you are probably going to enjoy the variety of beans. But if you are the type, like me (a new found hipster) keen on having a triple shot low-fat hazelnut cappuccino, then getting the same drink every time becomes less probable if the coffee house doesn't have a proper way to fix a...
Read moreYou know, there's a myriad of places to have a coffee in Beirut. Of course, the most prominent tend to be the global names mass producing a product and taste that's recognisable whichever country you're in. However, if you want the authentic taste of a local roastary that's been in the business of blending coffee since before most of us were born, you cannot go wrong with Café Younes. Nestled in a Hamra side street, just follow your nose to find it. Read moreCafé Youmes is an absolute gem in the Hamra district of Beirut. Renowned for its great service and amazing fresh coffee since 1935, Café Younes has been a reminder of the great pleasures Lebanon has to offer.
This specific coffee shop offers nice seating in a very large and cute garden in the back of the Café. Whether it's for studying or enjoying a good read with coffee, you will enjoy it. Furthermore, they also offer delicious pancakes and other meals, ideal for breakfast or lunch.
The staff is great and very helpful, and they are always available if you need further explanation for any menu item. The decorations and setting perfectly combine the comfort we desire and the lebanese spirit we remember.
In conclusion, if you are in Hamra, I fully recommend that you pass by Café Younes so that you enjoy a...
