Shatila - Mosque — Attraction in Ras Beirut

I'm a foreigner in Beirut currently studying here for the summer. I was able to pray Asr and Maghrib in this Masjid while exploring Hamra. There is an uncertainty with a lot of the Masajid in Beirut on whether or not they provide a space for women and girls, but this one does. It is located on the second floor, and I had to ask the Masjid workers to open the doors. It is on the second floor and clean. The prayer area is not as decorated as the men's area, but it is nice. There is an ablution/wudu area towards the back of the women's prayer room, and that is alright. Would definitely come back again, but the Masjid is not open until 30 minutes before each fardth prayer. مسجد شاتيلا - رأس بيروت: يقع المسجد في شارع التنوخيين بمحلة رأس بيروت على العقار 546 رأس بيروت بمساحة 192 مترا مربعا. أنشىء سنة 1381هـ/1962م بمساعي الخلايا الإجتماعية التي كان يرأسها الأستاذ عبد الله المشنوق ولجنة من أهل المحلة، وجمعية رأس بيروت التي كان يرأسها الدكتور محمد خالد وجمعت التبرعات من المحسنين. أوقف الأرض المرحوم الحاج عمر شاتيلا وتسمى المسجد بإسمه وتكفل آل غلاييني بمعظم تكلفة البناء خاصة المرحوم الحاج زكريا غلاييني الذي عمل جاهداً في سبيل إنشاء وجمع التبرعات لهذا المسجد ولمسجد خالد بن الوليد (جامع الساقية).

شهد المسجد بعض التوسعة والترميم سنة 1995 خاصة ترميم الأضرار التي لحقت به خلال الحرب الأهلية، ومؤخرا جرت توسعة هامة للمسجد وألحقت به مصليات وقاعة محاضرات ومناسبات اجتماعية سميت بإسم العلامة الشيخ مختار العلايلي أمين الفتوى السابق رحمه الله تعالى.

يتميز المسجد بطول مئذنته وقبته الخضراء الشبيهة بقبة المسجد النبوي الشريف، والمنبر خشبي تقليدي، أعلاه نصف دائري له بابان إلى يمين ويسار المحراب الخالي من الزخرفة. عدد طوابقه أربعة وفي كل واحد من بيوت الصلاة...

Allah bless this place, I came here from LAU, not long of a walk and not far at all, it has an open wudu place and the Imam there (Mahmoud Ramadan) was very nice, he speaks little English and knows Arabic, they do Quran Halaqah from Maghrib to Isha'a.
