Gasthof Au — Restaurant in Vaduz

We enjoyed our Valentine’s Day dinner at this delightful restaurant. Superb from the start, when we e-mailed our reservation request from the USA, we quickly received a friendly and clear confirmation note. Another warm greeting when we arrived, then seated at a nice corner table on a busy evening. Our server was nice and helpful throughout. We shared the soup of the day which was a cream of cheese with tiny croutons which was delicious/fantastic, one would be hard pressed to find such an excellent preparation back home, therefore memorable. My love had the “braised beef shoulder in strong red wine sauce” which was outstanding, the accompanying mashed potatoes were divine. I had the Viennese schnitzel (veal version) so I could get my ~annual schnitzel fix, and it was great / well made. Decor here was nice, atmospheric and pleasantly informal. Good value for money too. Many of the restaurants here in Vaduz were closed this week (quite surprising from a USA lens given Valentine’s Day and Mardi Gras, but thankfully this is not the USA), so we have a great affection to Gasthof Au for warmly welcoming us with great food. The food was average but the whole experience was soured from the start by the senior waitress, resplendent in traditional costume, spilling a cup of boiling hot bouillon into my lap. An apology of sorts was offered and some paper towels/water given to help me clean up. Luckily, the tailored shorts I was wearing prevented my legs from being burnt. No further apologies were given during the meal, and when the bill came I had to broach the question of cleaning costs (we were on holiday and had two weeks of hotel stays ahead of us). The cursory and derisory offer from the same arrogant waitress was 4 chf reduction...

Seemed like a nice place, but to be clear:

on the phone, they noted they didn't speak English. Which is fine, but FYI.

we arrived around ~21:30, and their kitchen was closed. I'm not sure if Google Maps has the ability to say when something like "restaurant kitchen" versus "hotel reception" have different hours without having totally different listings, so... maybe there needs to be a split listing for the restaurant portion versus the part where I presume you can stay overnight.
