Came here to try the food after seeing this place being featured on one of the foodie insta accounts. The place boasts smooth boneless chickens, and Ipoh beansprouts. Ordering was quite difficult because there was only 1 uncle taking orders, and no proper system in place. It all depends on who can catch his attention first. Drinks took forever to come. We were already halfway through our meal when it arrived. The barley was RM2.20 and had no sugar in it which didnt taste good at all. The verdict: chickens were indeed boneless, but when it arrived at our table it was ice cold. Would have preferred my chicken to be served hot. The accompanying oily rice was fragrant enough. The chilli sauce was too sour for my liking, while the ginger condiment didn't have enough kick to it. I liked that the chicken came with crispy garlic, which added some texture to the soft and smooth chicken. The ipoh beansprouts were short, fat and juicy. Absolutely delicious. It was served with some crispy shrimps (I think), which were salty and crispy and complemented the taugeh very well. Total damage was RM9.50 for a plate of chicken thigh rice, and RM9 for a plate of taugeh. Overall, the food was pretty good but the service can be improved.

Looking for delicious Chicken Rice around the Ampang Jaya area? You’re in luck! Nestled in the ground floor of Plaza Ampang Jaya, Yan Kee Hainan Chicken Rice is the go-to place for visitors and locals alike! I ordered the single portion Chicken Thigh Rice, and I must say the meat was extremely tender, juicy and fresh! Chewing on it left me wanting seconds! The chili and ginger sauce is top-notch; adds flavour to the Oiled Yellow Rice, yet not too overpowering. The staff and owner are very friendly and hardworking. They are constantly seen waiting tables, serving dishes, soups and condiments. Finally, I would like to shed some light on their space. The restaurant and the plaza has a cooling vintage feel to it; checkered floors and walls, and designed to receive a cool breeze from the outside. Very reminiscent of the early days of Central Market. Perfect spot for photos! All in all, I’m already planning my next trip here to enjoy another plate of delicious chicken rice!

If you’re eating alone, please don’t order the tauge because that can easily feed 2-3 pax. Chicken rice was honestly slightly above average. It had nice fragrance and not too heavy on the flavour. The chicken had that gelatinous layer under the skin and it was tender and juicy. But instead of the usual sesame oil and light soy sauce that’s drizzled on the chicken, this place uses the steamed fish gravy (if you eat a lot of Chinese style steamed fish you’ll know what I’m talking about). But what really stood out for Yan Kee was the chili sauce. It really punches you with the heavy tangy sour flavour. It is by far the most prominent chicken rice chili I’ve ever tasted and it is a good accompaniment to the overall dish. Atmosphere wise, it’s a non aircon place so try to find a place near the huge fans placed around the dining area.

First try caused our favourite chicken rice sold out at 11.30am. Food is so so. steam fish head RM 45, not that fresh. Kampung chicken lower quarter part RM 30, a bit disappointed not tender enough than what I expected, serve cold Best things is the ginger & chili sauce. 2 + 1 small rice with 3 drinks in total RM89.50 Only luo han guo, soft drinks & chinese tea available. We sat inside the air circulation is bad, the fan was not facing our table, ate halfway feel fainted couldn't breath. Lack of staff, ask for take away the chicken that we can't finish. The staff took a tupperware put on the table, and has been calling for doing other thing else. Waited long time end up we do it ourself and no plastic bag given. Ask counter for it, request to another side get it ourself. Don't go for fish, chicken is ok But I will never come...
