Romeo & Juliet (RJ) — Restaurant in Borneo

Is it possible to have good food without breaking the bank in Miri. That was what I went to find out at Romeo and Juliet.

First impression upon entering the premise were primary colour of “Green” and “Blue” with “Dark Grey”. I thought “Green” was appropriate considering that a third of the portion of our meal is green vegetable besides protein and carbohydrates. On a personal note, I enjoyed the background jazz music.

Eugene – proprietor and chef – came across as a warm and outgoing besides being friendly. He gave me a brief on his establishment and said that all the dishes were prepared, cooked and plated by him.

Therefore it is only fair for me to present my review based on presentation/plating and taste.

Overall impression of the venue and food would be two words – “Happy” and “Good”

“Happy” because the atmosphere was cheerful and full of laughter with audible conversations from across the tables. This was not your typical stiff upper lip restaurant whereby you enjoyed your meals in hushed conversations. Instead, this was more a place whereby friends met up to have a meal and drinks and just chilling out.

“Good” because the quality of food in term of plating and taste bordered fine dining. Naturally there would be areas for improvements but they were mainly in term of plating rather than taste.

Overall rating for Romeo and Juliet was 4 stars out of 5 based on my personal & bias but honest opinion and my taste-buds.

I am a repeating customer. Recommended this place to my family members& friends. Various selection of food with reasonable price. I actually have tried 90% of their food menu and all dishes are delicious. Great place to unwind after work for dinner; to have their pasta. RJ has croffles now for dessert.. and it is a plus point. Great place for coffee, fancy breakfast on weekends with loved ones.

The staff there is amazing, I know 2 of them who have been serving us with excellent food service.. I think his name is John ( male front waiter) and one lady with long hair( I think she has transferred to the other dining branch of RJ). John is so polite and professional, has a warm friendly face. The owner is also very welcoming, friendly , engage with us in conversations. Whenever he walks in the cafe and saw me & my guests; he would acknowledge us. I appreciate it. The whole customer service is one of the main factor ; why i always return to this place. It provides like a sense of unwind, relaxing , comfort vibe.

Kudos to the RJ team ( waiters, waitresses, chefs)for excellent dining experience in Miri.

The ambience is amazing. RJ is able to host private parties/ dinners for certain amount of guests. Reservation is also easy. Been here way too many times and I have never been disappointed.

My 1st choice for fine...

I came to dine here without making a reservation, but fortunately, there were still available seats. The staff was welcoming and attentive, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. The service was excellent, efficient, courteous, and truly commendable. I genuinely appreciate the effort they put into making guests feel comfortable.

The food was delightful, with well-balanced flavors and generous portions that made it worth the price. Each dish was presented beautifully, adding to the overall experience. While the spaghetti aglio olio was slightly not to my preference, it was still well-prepared and flavorful in its own way. Despite that, I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and appreciated the quality of the ingredients used.

This is my first time in Miri, and I must say, this place has already become one of my favorites. The warm and inviting ambiance creates a relaxing atmosphere, making it a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy good food. Whether you’re dining alone, with friends, or with family, the setting feels just right.

The experience exceeded my expectations, and I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a satisfying meal with great service.
