Back in Kota Kinabalu, I still could not forget the taste of Sinalau Bakas. After the flip car experience on Sinalau Bakas on my way back from Kundasang, I relate this matter to my good friend, Mirina, and she suggested that I tried this restaurant instead. VOGS is located in Penampang area, about 10km from our hotel in KK. Since I wanted to taste good Sinalau Bakas, I brought them here on the second evening of the total 3 nights stay in the capital city of Sabah. I have to thank Waze for this... reaching this restaurant was a breeze despite slight jam in the city centre (as always). This place is operated by the native people of Sabah. ◾Sup Tulang Sinalau - something that you would not get along the Tamparuli-Kundasang route. Similar to the Chinese style using the big pork bone to bring out the flavour of the wild boar soup but with their own twist. ◾VOGS Kon Lau Mian that comes with siew yuk - the princesses opted for noodle instead of rice and the portion was a big one that could easily feed 2 small eater. ◾VOGS Combo - available in platter for 2, 4 or 6 pax.. it rough translated to Small, Medium and Large size platter! Choose 4 type of meat (bakas, pork or chicken) - I went all out for wild boar.. BBQ Sinalau Bakas; Satay Bakas; Char Siew BBQ Bakas + one regular roasted pork belly. Just turn the carnivorous mode on and chomped the meat away. Other dishes in the menu that got my attention include burger Bakas and Bakas ribs. Overall a satisfying meal with the friendly owner checking to see if everything was alright.

Pork, pork and pork. That's mostly all we ordered here. The place is fairly simply decorated but cozy. You can either sit in or outside the shop. Menu is easy to understand and if you have a group, they have set platters which incorporate their famous dishes so you don't have to worry so much about what to order. The platter also comes with free flow Chinese tea making it even more worth it. The curry pork and kicap pork came well cooked and beautifully flavoured. Loved the thickness of the curry and the heavy taste of the kicap taste. The satay was also beautifully grilled and the meat was tender and tasty. However, the sausage and pork belly was pretty average. Good but nothing spectacular. The fried fish was fresh and delicious but came a little dry. The crackling skin was yummy though. Pork rib was tender with the meat falling off the bone goodness, with thick sauce that I felt was a little sweet but generally a well done dish. Vegggie tasted light and simple. A good complement to the complex protein taste of the dishes we ordered. All in all, good dinner, generally delicious food and worth a repeat visit.

Look no further if you want to try authentic sinalau balancing KK. Extensive menu with multiple options where you can combine regular pork with wild boar. I opted for mixed platter for 2ppl along with Tuaran Mee. Everything was served promptly and out of this world delicious. Pork was grilled perfectly, had good ratio of fat/lean meat and tuaran had nice smokey wok flavor and was better than at other places I tried which are meant to specialize in Tuaran mee. Will be back for sure on my next visit to KK!

Had a dining experience at Vogs recently and wanted to share some thoughts. The food – it was delightful with flavours.

However, there was a disappointing aspect concerning the service, specifically regarding the beverage charges. Upon ordering the platter, we were led to believe that it included free-flow Chinese tea, as mentioned in the menu. Unfortunately, upon receiving the bill, we were surprised to find charges for the Chinese teas. When we inquired, we were informed that the charges were due to our tea being served with ice. This crucial detail was neither mentioned anywhere on the menu nor communicated to us beforehand, which we found quite misleading.

I want to clarify that it wasn't the cost of the Chinese teas that was upsetting, but rather the dishonesty and lack of transparency. This oversight diminished the otherwise excellent dining experience.

In conclusion, while the food was great, the experience was tarnished by a lack of clear communication regarding additional charges. We hope the management takes this feedback to heart and improves transparency, ensuring future guests can enjoy their meals without any...
