Slightly away from the busier side of Burmah Road, just a few doors away from the Chinese Recreation Club is Dessert Garden. My foodie friend and myself decided to pop in a give it a go just after dinner during a weekday.
Parking is limited in front of the shop, since it was converted from a house before, so at most you might be able to park two to three cars in front. Better to park a little away and walk to the shop.
I liked the simple decor in the shop, with well spaced tables and chairs in the dining area. The counter in front is where you place your order and is also the cashier counter as well.
The lady boss is such a delight to speak to. As the place was empty when we visited, she really made us feel comfortable, took the time to explain things and was generally very friendly. If you're ever going to the shop, buy a Murtabak from the nearby NS Nasi Kandar for her and she'll be super happy (private joke!).
The offerings are quite extensive on the dessert side, but what was more interesting was the fact that they also served nonya home cooked dishes as well, which I wasn't expecting. Also is a list of layer cakes that you have to pre-order first.
My friend and I ordered a few desserts and they were excellent. What I appreciated most is the fact that their desserts are not overly sweet, which can be a turn off after a few mouthfuls. We had the Double Milk, Mango Sago and also a Mango shaved ice dessert.
Prices were reasonable, and we left feeling satisfied. Will be back to try their nonya dishes on...
Read moreOur last stop after a take away at Furanco, before returning to KL from our yearly Penang trip with the kids!
It was supposed to be a toilet break stop because our little toddler wanted to go for a loo and Furanco doesn’t have toilet for her. We walked pass this shop and walked in randomly 🤣🤣 ended up we ordered cendol and mango sago for dessert ! Mango is more on the sour side.
Noticed the well packaged layer cake at the counter when making payment. The lady from the shop took it up and asked me to smell the differences from the original, to the prune and 2 more choices (can’t recall) … how she knows I am particular and have my taste bud standard when it comes to layer cake 😊 oh well! I gotten the original and prune layer cake.
Tried it the next day as the lady said must be consumed within 2 days or put in the fridge for 1 month as they do not put preservative! It Is the best layer cake I tried compared to the Bandung famous layer cake ! Will definitely come again for the layer cake and wanna try their home cooked nyonya dishes when I come again to Penang!
Compliment to the baker, you have brought the soul to the recipe and we are fated to come into your...
Read moreWe were looking for an air-conditioned dessert spot to hideout from the blazing afternoon heat and stumbled upon this quant little cafe. The warm welcome with mom&pop vibes put us immediately at ease and decided on an Ice Kachang and a Chendol. Presentation was impressive and the generous helpings were matched by well-balanced flavors. We couldn’t help but notice the rest of the food menu and all the delicious-looking Nonya dishes so we made it a point to come back and try it the next day. It was the best decision we made in the entire trip! We weren’t even very hungry to begin with but every single dish from the Asam fish curry to the jellyfish salad, everything was so appetite-inducing I wound up ordering a second helping of rice just so that I can mop up the rest of the mouth-watering gravy! Kudos to the lady chef and owner indeed. And yes, you have won yourself two new regulars. If ever we come back to Penang in the near future, this will definitely be a must-stop for us. Thank you for your warm hospitality and amazing food. We will...
