Big event of 50 tables organised by REHDA. Set meal of 8 dishes. First time eating here. Fascinated with the old school vibes. Considering that the banquet was mass produced, the food quality was surprisingly good. The Cantonese cooking style harks back to the 70’s.
While both the starter and soup were quite average, the 3rd course of suckling pig was stellar - clean tasting, well seasoned, moist but not too fatty, skin was perfectly crisp. Perhaps the only thing missing was the spring onions to go with it. The steamed star Garupa was also top notch. Steamed perfectly, leaving the meat still very tender and moist. The soy dressing that came with it was light, fragrant, flavourful and they were super generous with the scallions and cilantro. The third dish that impressed was the braised combo of black mushrooms, tofu, broccoli, dried scallops. It was deliciously umami! The lotus leaf rice could have been better if the (out of season) waxed meat was of better quality. Found the dessert fried sesame balls quite delightful.

Read moreRead moreI booked a table a month ahead with a menu of Poon Choi / 盆菜 (with some extra dishes) that totaled up my bill to ~RM1000 which is quite a high cost sumptuous meal. But the service and the waiting time is the mood spoiler. We need to wait for 30 mins to get the first dish to be served. And the main dish which is the Poon Choi 盆菜, we need to wait for an hour. By the time this main dish was served, it's almost 9pm. As me and my family were sitting inside a room, I went outside and I see that the waiters keep serving the customers in the main hall. I was so frustrated that I scolded the captain so loudly that some customers nearby are looking at me. The captain just keep apologize that he doesn't have enough staffs to serve all the food on time. I just can't believe he can uttered out such a ridiculous answer. It was such a bad experience. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant unless you really don't mind to wait with your hungry stomach growling. It was my dad's birthday occasion and the restaurant just spoiled the...
The food's quality is mediocre, except for the standout seafood fried rice. The steamed fish was decent, though it seemed frozen and the meat lacked seasoning, resulting in a bland taste. The Thai-style shark fin soup was acceptable. Unfortunately, the spring onion chicken, not depicted in the pictures, was dry inside with tasteless meat. The attempt to enhance it with sauce didn't seem appropriate. The fried garlic chives stole the spotlight and effectively concluded my meal. We also ordered fried salt and pepper squid, which was overcooked, resulting in tough and chewy meat. When I raised the issue, I was informed that this cooking style naturally results in such texture. This contradicted my past experiences with similar dishes. The crab meat with egg wraps was another decent option, though it leaned towards bland. Overall, the food was average and there's no dish memorable enough for me to consider returning or...
