Limited parking area, entry will be blocked once inside is full, and unable to drop off also. There are OKU parking lots, but it's being blocked also.
If the management never improves, then it is not suitable for old people, babies, and difficult-ambulating people to visit.
Here is the reason TESTED with my own unpleasant experience😤:
We were only able to park at the roadside, which is far far away from the park. I brought my whole family there, with a 5-month-old baby, 55 yrs old mummy, 7 yrs old child and myself, who was just able to walk and ambulate without a wheelchair after healing from a foot fracture, resulting from a fall after coming out from the lobby gurney after shopping!!!
You can imagine how difficult for us to walk such long distances to get back to the car after visiting the park. And it's painful due to my foot fracture recently. The most dangerous part is to walk along the roadside with so many cars and motorcycles passing by.
Normally we won't risk ourselves walking along the busy roadside😒 but due to wanting to visit the new gurney bay for the first time, this is our last choice to do so. Because the entry was always blocked each time we tried to enter for the past few days. That time I was still in the wheelchair, and didn't get a chance to enter the park due to blocked entry!
Talked to the guard who blocked the entry for parking, and the reason given was to control the flow of entry to avoid jam. But this is not the ideal way, as it can reduce the number of car entries, but how about the safety of the people who want to visit the park???
An unpleasant accident might happen even before reaching the park, on the way coming from the carpark along the roadside! Since this park is made for families with children to play and relax, it is expected to have a proper car park area and a safe area for pickup and drop off.
Who knows will it end up visiting the hospital instead of the park? Touch wood if it never happened, or hasn't happened? Hope IN CHARGE can think and consider more people's safety, before opening to the public. Or we should buy insurance before visiting the park? Penang always jams, and road accident always happens. Since it is newly open, hope the management can listen to the people’s feedback and make changes to improve it.
We are Penang Lang, and of course, we hope that our hometown can be better and safer. I hope that I am not wasting my energy sharing my experience and giving so long-winded comments for the first time....
Read moreGurney Bay Park is a much-needed addition to Penang, and I truly appreciate that we finally have a public space by the sea where families, joggers, and friends can hang out, relax, and enjoy the outdoors. It’s great to see more green space in the city.
That said, the actual park looks quite different from the artist impressions shared during the initial proposal — it feels like it’s not quite finished or lacks the refinement that was promised. Still, I acknowledge the effort to create this public space and hope it will continue to improve over time.
One serious concern I’d like to highlight is the damaged pedestrian walkway. A long stretch of concrete has broken off, leaving a hazardous gap filled with loose rubble. This is a safety issue, especially for kids, elderly visitors, and cyclists. I’ve attached photos for reference and hope the authorities will take urgent action to repair it.
With proper maintenance and improvements, this park has great potential to become a true gem for Penangites and tourists alike. I look forward to seeing it grow and develop into what was...
Read moreA reclamation land which has been developed into a nice public park by the sea, along the Gurney Drive. It has a great sea view at one side, and another view of modern skyscrapers at the other side! It has nice walking and running path, good for leisurely stroll, as well as jogging. There is also a children playground, a place to skateboard in the middle of the park. There are public toilets at several locations of the park. What is most impressed is the availability of AED for any emergency. It is a clean, well maintained modern park with safety features. However, the park is lacking in plants, trees with shades..Hence, it can be very hot to visit in the afternoon. Best time to visit is early morning or late evening! It is...
