We all know that if we want authentic Hokkien Mee, Penang is the place to be. The problem is there are so so many Hokkien Mee in Penang, from coffee shops to restaurants. Where to find the BEST Hokkien Mee?

After staying in Penang for awhile and having tasted tons of Hokkien Mee, I found the ONE!

Santai Hokkien Mee is was introduced to me by my mother in law and I’ve been coming back for more ever since.

The broth, the most important component was prepared the day before to ensure the flavour is fully released after cooling down. Most of the Hokkien Mee I had have very watery broth but this one is just slightly thicker after mixing it up with their home made sambal. The broth is rich with the prawn essence and super flavourful.

I normally would have Bee Hoon Mee but you could try Maggie Noodles, Bee Hoon or just Mee! Topped off with bean sprouts, lean meat, pig’s skin, hard boiled egg and of course, PRAWNS!

The first time I had it, I had TWO BOWLS! And normally I wouldn’t finish the soup but here, I finished every single drop of it 😅

I strongly recommend all food lovers to pay Santai Prawn Mee a visit if you are in search of good quality and affordable Hokkien...

This hidden jewel of Hokkien Mee (HKM) is now at the opposite of DIY or few houses after Ming Seang Bak Kut Teh (same row as Indian Temple. We ordered HKM, 1 bowl of Ee Mee Suah, and 1 bowl of Koay Teow Soup. We loved their HKM and it's condiments... it's tasty, delicious, flavorful, smooth, and aromatic. The eateries' layout is larger than last time, simple, airy and brightly lighted. We loved the Deep Fried Mantis Prawn.
