4 of us visited Gaia for dinner yesterday evening. We appreciated that we were accommodated despite having arrived 18 minutes before the kitchen opened. This was a nice gesture, and we did not mind waiting at our table until service started. It was clear that a lot of effort went into the décor and furnishings which provided a distinctive persona and an upmarket feel which added to the ambiance of the space. The tables were dressed elegantly with tasteful quality crockery, cutlery and glassware.
The staff were attentive smartly dressed courteous and well-spoken and the tasteful low key cool jazz background music added the final touch to the promise of a fine dining experience. From a presentation point Gaia wins hands down compared to anything else in the area.
Our first choice of hors d'oeuvre was Foie gras however having been told that what was on offer was a preprepared pate instead of the conventional freshly cooked duck liver; we opted out for French onion soup, wild mushroom soup, fresh oysters and fried potato wedges. For our entrée we selected fresh cod, Australian wagyu beef, French lamb cutlets and octopus.
Aside from ambiance and service any fine dining venue lives or dies by the quality of its cuisine. In this instance the quality of the ingredients, seasoning and plating indeed hit the mark. The French onion soup was exceptional with a perfect pastry and cheese topping and deserved a MICHELIN Star. The wild mushroom soap was equally as good. The lamb was cooked to perfection with delicate seasoning and excellent flavor. The cod was perfectly cooked and came on a bed of mashed potatoes and a side of al dente sautéed vegetables. The serving of Wagyu beef was generous flavorful and well cooked.
we did not order wine and our total bill came to RM 1,148 which is commensurate to the quality of the ingredients served and within expectations. However, what could have been an exceptional 4 or 5 star experience was somewhat muted by the fact that our orders instead of being served together; each item arrived at a different time with each of us receiving our hors d'oeuvre 8 to 10 minutes apart. The same occurred with the entrées. Surprisingly the mushroom soup which was my wife’s hors d'oeuvre was served after her entrée and was delivered lukewarm. The garnish which was a little overbearing for my own taste was served on top of the oysters – my recommendation is to serve it on the side to allow it to be added to taste. This was disappointing and surprising considering that for most of the time we were the only patrons in the restaurant. Finally, and only as a personal opinion the gold color plastic presentation plates adorning the tables do not fit-in. They take away from the quality of the rest of the fine tableware and the otherwise fine feel of...
Read moreSharing this knowing that reviews are very crucial for any business but I honestly feel that GAIA is and absolute scam. I honestly should have read other reviews before booking. The amount of 1 stars should’ve been a red flag. I guess their marketing and shopfront caught me off guard.
To start off, THIS IS THE WORSE EXPERIENCE EVER. DO NOT TAKE THIS LIGHTLY.
we decided to celebrate New Year’s Eve at GAIA. 8 pax in the private room.
Our dinner started late at 8.40. 20mins before arrival I pre ordered some appetisers cause everyone was hungry. We set down and had to wait 20mins. No issues, maybe their kitchen overlooked it even tho they replied my WhatsApp message.
We ordered ALOT of food and I’ll just write in point form now:
Pre ordered 2 beef Wellington’s which cost $75 SGD each, by no means is this cheap, beef Wellington was the last dished served almost like after 1.5 hours. They served it 10mins apart which is funny because normally it’s cooked in a slab and portioned. The 2 plates came in different doneness and tasted very different. From the colour 1 piece was probably a few weeks old (see photo). THE MEAT DID NOT HAVE ANY TASTE, they probably sous vid the frozen tenderloin and wrapped the crust over.
ordered 1kg of MB9+ wagyu Steak. After 40min the waiter brought out 1 plate of meat and said the rest was sold out (THIS WAS A BLESSING CAUSE IT TASTED LIKE CRAP)
Truffle mushroom soup tasted like salt water. We didn’t even touch it at the end of the night, see photos
Garlic lobster tail. The lobster was differently frozen and the pasta was overcooked
nostalgia chicken this fried chicken tasted like what u would buy in family mart next door. The mash potato was probably from those instant powder kinds
SERVICE STAFF Could not communicate well, him telling us 40mins later and serving a 150gram instead of 1kg was already….. ….
the staff keep dripping wine all over the table.
After dinner all of us ended up having to order GRAB PRATA which tasted way better.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND TO EAT HERE. I AM STILL SO UPSET THAT IT RUINED OUR NEW...
Read moreLet's talk about the pros first, the only thing is great is the atmosphere and their layout design.
Saw this recommendation on XiaoHongShu, its my bad which i didn't look thru google review. The worst thing is those dishes on Menu was 40% not available, this was not informed when we're doing reservation, while its only mention wellington steak need to be pre-order, seafood selection only have 5, but 2 is not available, we select for Miso Sake Cod, and after 5 min, the staff told us its not available today as well, we only have salmon and scallop today. Its ridiculous!
Talk about the food, Merry Me Chicken should be chg to Forgive Me Chicken, tasteless chicken worst than spring roll with super salty sauce. Blue Fin Tuna Roll which the side, kelp is the best in all dishes, the sauce is totally unmatch with the roll. Full blood steak which we order medium doneness, but the actual is medium well. Salmon which we take as alternative of Codfish which is really common, nothing surprise.
Conclusion, all the menu are overpriced with normal to bad taste, no surprise you will get here, please lower your expectation if you are coming. If you are looking for something that is worst, Here's the...
