I recently had the pleasure of dining at Zatar Arab Restaurant with my wife and two kids, and I must say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. If you find yourself in the area, this restaurant is a must-visit.

From the moment we walked in, the waiters provided world-class service. They were attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was memorable. Despite being busy, they made us feel welcome and attended to our needs promptly.

The food portions at Zatar Arab Restaurant were impressively generous. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the servings, which left us feeling satisfied and content. Every dish we ordered had a world-class taste, except for the lamb ribs, which were slightly overcooked and dry. Nevertheless, this minor flaw did not overshadow the overall dining experience.

The highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the avocado milkshake, garnished with nuts and raisins. It was a refreshing and delightful blend of flavors that complemented the main course perfectly. I highly recommend trying this unique beverage when you visit.

As an Arab living in Malaysia, it’s always exciting to find a restaurant that makes food as authentic and delicious as back home. This restaurant was by far one of the best Arabic restaurants I’ve tried in Johor Bahru.

Shawarma: 10/10. The shawarma was the most delicious shawarma I’ve ever tried living abroad. The chicken was perfectly seasoned paired with the creamy garlic sauce and the bread was nice and crispy.

Mixed grill platter: 9/10. I thought this was the most tender and juicy grill platter I’ve ever had but I knocked it down a point since the seasoning could be a bit overwhelming for some and you really taste the beefy flavor in the kebab skewer. The lamb cubes were perfectly tender and if you’ve had lamb cubes in Johor Bahru before, you know some of them come very tough and hard to chew — this one was certainly an exception to that and was cooked to perfection. If I were to eat another mixed platter in Malaysia, I’d definitely order from Zaatar.

Mandi rice: 11/10. The best mandi rice I’ve ever had! We ordered it plain without chicken but it was so flavorful and delicious. The rice was the perfect texture and moistness too. I was surprised by how good it was since I’m not usually a rice person. I highly recommend trying it if you’re ordering from this restaurant. It’s amazing even if you have it plain.

Kunafa: 8/10. Tasty and well made kunafa that isn’t too sweet as some can be. My only complaint is that the texture is a bit tough but the flavor is wonderful. I would likely get this again. We ordered this after we finished our food so it came warm and right on time.

Lemon with mint drink: 10/10. Perfectly executed. The flavor was nice and the sweetness level was exactly as I like it, not overwhelmingly sugary.

After having dinner, one of their staff was trying to sell perfume that they also sell in their store. After choosing the suitable perfume we made payment using debit card. My bank account reflected as deduction successful but the cashier said they haven't received it and made us repay a small amount to see if it "flows" and finally claimed it didn't through too but actually my bank transaction shows 2 successful deduction on the app. They said their connections for card payment can be slow so asked for cash payment instead and we refused to give as the amount was reflected as deducted on the app. The sales person said we will not be able to take the item as the transaction is not successful on their end. We were very annoyed and told them to refund the amount deducted on the card and they simply said it will take 3 working days for them to check and if the amount deducted they will transfer back. However. Its been more than 3 days we tried to call a multiple times they do not answer the call and have not respond to messages and for sure didn't refund back the money that was deducted. Felt like we were scammed by them! Will be making a police report...
