Read moreFood - Had the Ribeye, Sirloin, Lamb Chop and the Rossini X’mas special. Steaks were cut too wide and thin to have any juicy bite regardless what doneness you preferred. Lamb was better in this regard but lacked flavour due to no sauce pairing available, definitely not worth the RM190 price tag. The Rossini Fillet was somewhat acceptable with a decent sauce pairing, but it was rather cold when served. The truffle mushrooms and foie gras were nice and flavourful, which was within expectations. At a whopping average price of around RM250 each, they were truly mediocre and not worth the wait. Lastly, the signature free-flow fries were lukewarm, poorly seasoned, crudely cut and almost soggy, you’ll find nothing but disappointment.
Service - Absolute abomination. Abhorrently understaffed for a Christmas Eve dinner, not to mention extremely poor training and preparations. Took me 3 attempts over 20 minutes to finally get 4 warm glasses of water. Complimentary appetiser bread was not to be found before i asked 2 separate waiter. We were more than halfway into the meal before we realised that they forgot the complimentary sauces for the fries, only for the waiter scurry to the kitchen after I asked. You’ll notice that every staff including the manager will appear very busy and occupied, but on a closer look, they simply crowd around the kitchen waiting for the next dish to appear or fiddling with their thumbs. Not one actively checked the floor to ensure customers had their requests fulfilled.
Price - Partly already mentioned, every dish is severely overpriced for its quality and I have reasonable grounds to believe that this restaurant simply feeds off the Les Bouchons name.
Overall - I strongly advise against patronising this establishment regardless...
Read moreWent over for dinner as my daughters wanted some French cuisine. First of all, service is good and the atmosphere is decent so the initial impression is not bad. However the food is really disappointing and my family are not picky diners. I have my fair share of Michelin stars restaurants and fine dining establishment but I'm not subjecting or using fine dining restaurants as baseline to judge this very restaurant. With that said, I'll just go with the basic/fundamentals of an average restaurant in Johor Bahru. I can't comment on the steak dishes as we ordered fish and poultry. Mushroom soup and escargot are average, nothing to rave about and at 50+ ringgit a dish, my family felt short-changed as I only took a few spoonful and it's pretty meh. I can guarantee that there are tons of JB restaurants that served much better soup and escargot for half the price. The real killers are the fish dishes, for RM110 per dish, it's not that expensive but I expect it but be fresh at the bare minimum. Sad to say, the frozen taste and the "fishiness" is really evident, I can say without missing a heartbeat that I can cook a better halibut and salmon than what my daughter and wife have. Both the fish dishes are very salty so when you add the "dismal quality" into the mix, it's a disaster. I don't like to be overly critical on food reviews but it's been a very long time since my whole family were overwhelmingly disappointed with the food standard. My poultry dish is average but at RM90 a pop (tax/service charge not included), Nandos can definitely beat them soundly and silly. The salad and complimentary bread actually taste decent and much better than the main course. Long story short, it's definitely the first and last visit for me...
