The famous cendol in my hometown Batu Pahat, Johor. Nothing could stop cendol lovers from indulging in a cooling bowl of cendol, especially in this scorching heat! The humble Akbar Cendol stall located right in the heart of Batu Pahat is famous for three reasons: their good, tasty cendol, the generous amount of mung bean âwormsâ served in each bowl, and the affordable price ranging from RM 1 to RM 3 only! Itâs best savored on its own but you can opt to add sweet corn, glutinous rice, or both to your dish for a little extra flavour! All this in a spoonful makes for an amazingly satisfying treat. Itâs no wonder this place is always packed. There are limited seatings available but donât worry, you can have this dish packed to go!

Read moreIt looks like this cendol place has been here for ages and frequented by locals, mostly. The cendol (shaved ice, coconut milk and brown / areng sugar) is nice, not too sweet or over the top like most so-called âhipâ cendol stall nowadays. Iâm glad to see they still maintain the original way of serving cendol.
We came around 2:30pm and not too many customers then. Parking was also easy to find along the street as the street was also somewhat quiet.
For Muslim visitors to Batu Pahat, thereâs a mosque (Masjid Arab) just 2 minutes walk from the cendol shop. Turn to the right as you exit the shop and youâll see the mosque right at the road...
