Batu Pahat has a cool collection of cafés, but this particular one deserves a special mention. Be transported back to the 60’s and 70’s era as you step into this hidden place tucked in the heart of Batu Pahat.
Niqiu Space is an antique gallery that coexists with a café called Rasa Rasa (覺味). On first glance, you will not have known it is an antique store and café because of its inconspicuous facade. Upon arrival, its facade aroused my curiosity and I was trying to peep what was inside. This hidden place is formerly a clinic and you can still find its old signboard hanging in its interior. The theme here is eclectic, with a various mix of vintage items on display. The aesthetic and ambience are on point and I would say this is best theme café I had visited.
Although the food menu is limited, the beverages are the main attraction here. The prices are a little steep here, though you have to bear in mind you are paying for its ambience.
To ensure the comfort of other diners, there are several rules that you need to comply during your visit here:
Each diner is required to order a minimum of one drink or meal.
Portrait photography is not allowed.
Refrain from touching the items on display.
This is not a child-friendly place in consideration of the numerous antiques displayed inside the shop.
Despite the rules which may be off putting for some, Niqiu Space is one interesting café I shall patronise should I visit Batu Pahat again.
Tips: Avoid your visit on both Tue and Wed as this hidden space is closed. Spot the popular eatery called Ah See Wanton Mee (张亚泗云吞面) and you will be able to find Niqiu Space situated...
Read moreHad the privilege of walking by this little quaint hidden gem when I came to batu pahat who knew this area was so hipster with boutique coffee sprouting nearby. Having no signboard and little description outside of the cafe I was immediately intrigued! Blown away by the sheer amount of antique which was tastefully decorated and emitted a cosy and calm vibe- I ventured deeper into the store then realizing it really was a cafe with yummy cakes! I tried the ice hojicha tea and banana cake! I love the subtle sweetness and moist dense nature of the banana cake! For coffee drinkers they do hand pour coffee hence why things to do take awhile-good things comes to those who are patient. Got talking with the baker- Elaine/ellin(sorry if I butchered your name) and her brother found out the cakes were vegan- love their whole philosophy of sustainability coupled with encouraging people to try out vegan food and to revitalized this area of batu pahat. The mindset of these youngsters is great and inspiring- they mention their vegan cakes took months of research I hope more people will come to know of the duo and their cakes will achieve...
Read moreIt was my first time to this cafe, as I am a foodie adventurous and photographer. The place was almost crowded as it was a public holidays. There is a table for two and my friend was sitting browsing the menu while I am admiring the antique decor. As I walked into the 2nd dining room, I took a shot of the surrounding with my DSRL camera (without flash). A man (believe to be the owner) politely sounded me in high tone that I can take picture but do not disturb the customers. I felt offended by him as I merely took a shot while I could hear customers talking and chatting loudly. My friend who was sitting outside even could hear the owner's unfriendly tone. I decided to leave the place as I feel...
