Kedai Makan Soon Lai — Restaurant in Johor

Another old establishment that I managed to visit while in Batu Pahat was the most famous kwai chap place in Batu Pahat. After finishing my meeting in JB, I drove up north back to BP and timed my journey to reach the town around noon time. My trusted Waze brought my directly to the restaurant.

Located on the same floor, they share the same building as Batu Pahat's Rubber Dealers Association. They don't allow indoor seating at that moment (I didn't ask, but most likely due to MCO) so I had to order on the spot where they took my order and then paid the bill before taking my seat along the corridor outside. Lucky for me.. it wasn't that hot & stuffy that day.

As I was Hans Solo that day... I couldn't order much:

◾Kwai chap - silky smooth square rice sheets doused with light and aromatic herbal soup. Love their little touch by topping with fried garlic which made it tasted better. ◾Braised meat - many type of meats available, even spare parts. I went for their pork belly, pork skin and braised egg. Don't forget to dip into the given chilly sauce. Quite good I'd say. ◾Fried spring roll - not the best but definitely above average. ◾Salted vegetable

Note: there's a truck outside selling crackers made of tapioca, potato...

Visited this restaurant based on a recommendation from a local friend, and I must say, it was a good choice. The restaurant specializes in Kway Chap, and it definitely lived up to its reputation.

The soup was clear without any unpleasant odors or flavors. It was evident that great care was taken in preparing it.

What sets this restaurant apart is the variety of pork cuts they offer. You have the freedom to choose your preferred cuts, which adds a personal touch to your meal. It's a fantastic option for those who appreciate customization.

Moreover, the restaurant goes beyond just Kway Chap. They also provide a selection of delicious side dishes to complement your main dish. It's an excellent opportunity to try different flavors and enhance your dining experience.

One thing to note is their queuing system. Before finding a seat, you need to place your order and make payment at the counter first.

And here's the cherry on top: they have an air-conditioned room where you can dine comfortably. This feature adds a touch of luxury and provides a respite from the heat, allowing you to savor your meal in a relaxed ambiance.

Visited on a Sunday afternoon at ard 1.30pm. Seeking for parking took a while and finally got one within walking distance. Lunch hour, and the shop is busy and almost full. Was told by seller waiting time of 20-30mins and most popular parts are sold out. Additional choice of egg tarts, ottak and Ice-cream, but not in my order list 😆 Make my order and seated in the air-con dining area while waiting for the food to be served. The dining area are cooling, bright and clean, staff moving around busy cleaning Watching and listening to the chatting voices up and down from the surrounding table, very homey feeling. Some may not like the smell of it, but for some, it is tongue swallowing. To me, it's OK. The bill comes up to RM31.10 for 2 of us. Considering...
