Read moreThe Oriental Signatures! Tempting me in such a way means I would order the most famous layered tart (thickest tart i ever tried), so long they are not exorbitantly priced! To me, classifying a dish as a signature signifies a high level of confidence; with that comes higher expectations, and correspondingly, a bigger disappointment if food fails to impress. I must say this was darn worth it as the egg filling was, well, filling! The base was indeed flaky, crusty, and crispy, but I can't help feeling it wasn't buttery enough. Filling was wobbly and tast not bad; just not the kind that would blow you away. For mains, Oriental Signature Nasi Lemak, fragrant rice, and perfectly down up sunny side up anchovies groundnuts, ikan bilis, cucumber & sambal, topping up poached egg (it would be perfect if sambal comes with separately saucer instead of put at the side of rice, it was too spicy for me). Of course, last but not least, not forget to try their famous Kopi that is seen almost on every table in the restaurant ! It comes in a big jug with foam at the top, certainly very generous with a serving portion, with just one sip, greeted with the cold, aromatic bittersweet taste. Should have prepared some of the chairs at the waiting area (for those senior citizens would a chair to sit while waiting to be served). Clearly, the waitress & waiter can be seen as very stressful as the overturn table rate was very high rate. At this point, some of them might not notice if you're ready to order, perhaps a small device calling service system attach to the table would help to reduce the stressfulness of trying to raise up my hand to get someone's attention (no word to describe how embarrassing i am, trying to get someone's attention). Overall, it was...
Read moreAs a chef, I would like to give my opinion on my experience I had when dining around 8pm.
We ordered Shredded Chicken Hor Fun, Hai Nan Chicken Rice, and Laksa.
Shredded Chicken Hor Fun is only about 50% of what is considered "hot" as it is lukewarm. The prawns aren't hot, indicating they're not being cooked in the spot. Furthermore, the shredded chicken is very rubbery. It feels like it was used to make soup, and the leftover old chicken is used to make the Hor Fun.
The Laksa is also lukewarm, but otherwise okay.
The Hai Nan Chicken Rice - The rice's quality has started to degrade, whereby it's sticky. We were too hungry and only noticed the rice's quality was degrading after a while. It seems like the chicken has been used to boil soup, and is so soft that we wouldn't need to bite it. The chicken for Hai Nan Chicken Rice should not taste like this.
As a chef, I'm very familiar with how food is processed and their quality over time. We used to love some of the dishes, but time has shown that the food quality has been fluctuating. The Johor Jaya branch has been very inconsistent in this, except the coffee, eggs tarts, and desserts. I really hope that the management can look into this and improve the food quality....
