A truly display of Malaysian-Chinese interpretation of dim sum. The fusion of Malay flavour (in the fried mee siam) and Fu-Zhou Chinese ingredients (in the red vinasse pork) presents depth within the dishes, which demands knowledge and cultivation from the consumer in order to be rightly appreciated.
For those who are used to the Cantonese style dim sum or tea house, this restaurant might be seen as limited in choice (lack of variety/ fried food). However, the limitation of this restaurant is in fact a reflection of its local-ness and the clientele itself it aimed to serve. The local residents within its neighbourhood, not tourists looking for cheap amusement. Therefore, do visit this hidden gem with a curiosity to learn of the Malaysian-Chinese interpretation of Dim Sum.

Read moreOverall, the experience was poor. I went at 1pm on a Saturday. They offer both steamed and fried dim sum, nothing too crazy, just your standard har gao, siew mai, char siew bao, cheong fun, etc. I ordered their fried carrot cake (positively-reviewed), har gao, siew mai, custard bao, chive dumpling and an iced yuan yang. Total damage: 28RM. First, the positive end of things. I liked the ambience; quiet, nostalgic and tucked away. The custard bao also has a very nice and soft bun (but the filling was solid and not the runny kind more common these days).
Now, the negative. Across all the steamed dishes, the skin was always thick and gelatinous, the pork filling in the siew mai was starchy and the har gao was so poorly wrapped it fell out onto the floor the moment I tried to pick it up. Custard in the bao was also clumped together and not savoury enough.
Removed from the saved list for sure. Nostalgia's only...
Read moreSo so dim sum, not exactly fantastic, selection is quite limited. The Phoenix craw (chicken leg) is herbal taste which is quite nice. Lor Mai Mai is soft and nice too. Har kaw and Siew Mai not up to mark, har kaw is too dry and no visible prawn, Siew Mai have a kind of insecticide taste.
Good go to if are staying around here but price is not exactly cheap. (Comparable to sg price). Can see quite a few people came to tapao (assuming they stay around here)
Staff are friendly though. Hopefully they will improve on...
