Sushi Zanmai Southkey JB — Restaurant in Johor

Food is just average, come here quite frequently just because it's okay sushi at midvalley Southkey mall and we love hanging out here after work. Services and the attitude of the staff here are just bizzares. It's almost as if they don't want customers in the restaurants. We were turned away many times (for different reasons) since 2 years ago. Some of the 'reasons' or what we consider as excuses were

No tables available due to covid rules (when the restaurant was clearly 70% empty, with only 3-4 tables seated), please be noted that this was when all restaurants next to it were almost fully seated when covid rules were a bit more relaxed.

No more than 2 people can be seated together at the same table (or even separated but adjoining table), noted that this was also when the rules were relaxed as the end of pandemic.

Long waiting time due to Ramadan. One time during Ramadan last year (2021), we came at around 6pm, were told that it's full due to people waiting to break fast and told to come back later. We understood well and only came back at 8pm. Turned away again saying restaurant was full and might have to wait another hour, or might not even get a table that evening. We thought it was ridiculous because they couldve just told us at the beginning to get dinner elsewhere instead of telling us to come back later and not get served.

Obviously we have a love-hate relationship with this branch because we love all other sushi Zanmai branches but this has got to be the worst among of them. Would NOT recommend unless you come to midvalley Southkey almost every day and would like another choice of restaurant.

Overall, food is okay, bad services, bad attitude, understaffed. Okay for a quick normal dinner, not for occasions and really nothing...

Tried Sushi Zanmai for the very first time and I must say, I was really impressed with the whole experience. Honestly, everything that we ordered turned out to be good and that doesn’t always happen when trying out a new place. One of the biggest surprises for me was the fried soba. I’ve never tried it before and it completely exceeded my expectations, it was so tasty and flavourful that I’d definitely order it again next time.

We ordered quite a variety of dishes to share and each one had its own unique taste that stood out. The Tamago Sushi was light and sweet, just the way I like it. The Tuna Salad Sushi was refreshing and had a nice balance of flavours. The Inari Cranky Salmon Sushi was crunchy and delicious, while the Inari Tuna Salad Sushi was equally satisfying. We also had Yakitori, which was grilled perfectly and seasoned well. The Yaki Soba (small) was surprisingly filling, packed with flavour and cooked to perfection. The Atsuyaki Tamago, thick Japanese omelette, was soft, fluffy and slightly sweet. Lastly, the Ebi Tempura was crispy on the outside, yet juicy and fresh inside, definitely one of my favorites.

Overall, it was a satisfying meal with no misses. Everything tasted great and complemented each other well. I’ll definitely be recommending Sushi Zanmai to my friends and family because the quality of the food and the variety of the menu really stood out. Without a doubt, I’ll be coming...

Went there yesterday for dinner with family. Ordered some appetizers, ramen and some rice.

Garlic fried rice, moist and too salty. Okay people make mistakes I'll look past that.

Sushi has less filling that advertised. Tasted terrible and took longer than 30 minutes to be served despite seeing 4 chefs on the sushi counter.

The eel rice box or set or however you can call it was the breaking point. 1 side of the rice had a hand soap smell and flavor, the other side? Absolutely salty.

Well food was terrible then what about their service? It's in the same level as the food if you ask me. Asked for refill for green tea. Asked 2 waitress, they acknowledged and heard what I said, but in the end left the kettle for my family and proceeded to walk away after asking them for refill for more than 5 minutes.

Disappointing is not enough to express what I felt at that restaurant. Avoid this restaurant as it was absolutely horrendous. Wasted money and time there. Only reason my family went there was because we were satisfied with my experience at their other...
