This restaurant is new to my wife and me but the menu had quite a few interesting dishes, in addition to the soups that seem to be their specialty so we decided to try. The menu has so much variety that we spent a long time to decide - that's also because the pictures in the menu are well done and they have good descriptions. Best part is that we can review a large colourful menu and not be forced to order via a QR code.
We ordered a pickled pineapple appetizer, chinese spinach in broth, their specialty mixed rice in stone pot, a mountain pepper pig tripe soup and a barramundi fried with bentong ginger and garlic (in a clay pot).
The pineapple was a bit of a surprise as it's pickled in what seems to me to include dried tangerine peel, salted plum, etc. Quite different but I found it very refreshing.
The spinach was perfectly cooked (still crunchy but not hard) and tasty. The broth was thickened but not unpleasantly so. Very well done.
The rice came next and is served in a hot stone pot with mushroonms, pork, caramelized yam pieces, and lots of other bits of ingredients that blended together perfectly. We mixed it up then left the pot to do its stuff roasting the rice to layers of golden crunchy bits at the bottom. The mushrooms and the yam were especially good and just kept getting better as we slowly enjoyed it.
The tripe soup was a single serving but with the other dishes, just right for the two of us. There was a lot of other ingredients in the soup in addition to the tripe; so belly pork slices, mushrooms, etc. And the overall taste of the pepper in the dish was just right. While the single serving was the right size for the two of us, we both were greedy for more!
The barramundi came last in a claypot on top of a little fire. Mixing the fish into the ginger and garlic released a huge burst aroma of the ginger that went with the sauce. The fish stayed perfectly cooked despite being in the claypot and eating it together with pieces of garlic or the ginger gave such a warm feeling to the stomach. This was my favourite dish of a bunch of very good dishes!
Definitely will be...
