🍞 Tan Lee Sing Kopitiam: A Grumpy Lady Boss with a Heart of Gold ☕ . We were drawn in by the scent — a rich aroma of coffee and toasted bread wafting down Mural Street. No signboards, no online reviews — just the nose doing its job. We followed it straight into a small kopitiam tucked at the back of the alley. . We ordered coffee and toast — simple, but not careless. The coffee? Bold, honest, no frills — our first true taste of Kluang. The toast? Called “space bread” — thick slices flattened and grilled to golden crispness, warm and fluffy inside. . Everything felt just right… until the boss lady came over and said: “People like you are so free, huh.” Her tone? Icy. Her face? Not exactly welcoming. We looked at each other, a little stunned. . To be honest, we didn’t think we’d come back. But as we walked further down the alley, we spotted a mural. And the woman in the painting? Was her. . That same sharp-tongued lady boss. Turns out, an artist painted it on a whim after having coffee at her shop — no warning, no request. She laughed and said she never expected to end up on a wall. . So we circled back. Coaxed her into a photo with the mural. This time, the cold face melted — she started talking. . Her name is Aunty Linda. She’s been a volunteer for 43 years. Her brother is chronically ill — she’s cared for him personally, day in and day out. She serves at welfare centers, always bringing her brother in his wheelchair along. Pope Francis once gave her a Apostolic blessing as appreciation of her selfless devotion into charity. She doesn’t boast — but you can hear the quiet pride in her voice. . Who would've thought — Behind this old-school kopitiam, amidst sizzling pans and grumpy stares, lives a legend? . A woman with a sharp tongue but the kindest heart — doing the quiet, sacred work of compassion. . That’s the thing — Some people talk endlessly about gratitude, but behave selfishly behind closed doors. Others may speak bluntly, even harshly, but live with a kind of goodness that humbles you. . Aunty Linda, thank you. You reminded us that we shouldn't judge someone by what they say — but by what they do. . Next time we're in Kluang, we’ll come back to see you. Maybe you’ll still look grumpy — but so what? You’ve already poured a lifetime’s worth of tenderness into the people who needed it most. . 🫶 Rating: Coffee aroma + hidden mural + legendary boss = worth a visit 📍 Tan Lee Sing Kopitiam @ Back Alley of Mural Street, Kluang 📷 Tip: Don’t miss the mural — and take a photo with her if you...
Read moreThis is really a disaster!!! We will not be coming back here anymore! The service here is super duper slow. We have asked the uncle/aunties to come and clean the table+order food for more than 3 times. Yet they keep ignoring us until we really got mad and only they slowly come and get the order. The drinks served pretty fast. But that’s it. We ordered Milo kosing ice and I pretty sure they make the normal Milo for us. The drinks are tasteless. We also ordered some bread and half boiled eggs to eat. But! They just completely forget our order! The customers came later than us get the bread before us. We waited almost 45 minutes and only get the drinks. This is just terrible! They are short of hand and serving speed is so slow and yet they still chit chatting with other customers. I regretted so much to just go there...
Read moreVisited this infamous local coffee shop, Tan Lee Sing for the first time, as I always walked past the front shop. I only chanced upon the back old ally this time. I like the ‘alfresco’ feel, and it’s an arts street with mural paintings !
I had a great experience on my 1st visit, Fri 5th Jul morning prior to my Mt Lambak hike. It’s awesome….also chatted briefly with the owner (I think), Aunt Linda. She speaks good English, a very friendly & agile lady!
Disappointedly, on my 2nd visit the next day, 6th Jul. Somehow, they simply can’t get the softboiled eggs done correctly! I had returned the under cooked eggs twice, as egg white still raw. Finally, I was served a hardboiled egg ! 😂
Ps. Coffee wasn’t great, but Kaya Butter Bun is worth a try! Dry Mee Siam has a bit of beansprout & chives...
