OK BOSS Langkawi — Restaurant in Kedah

There is a saying in malay that basically translates too you come to my house in good faith, you will leave it in good faith. There are more to those words, a direct translation does also not translate the feeling behind the saying. Enough of that let us speak candidly, this shop is a master of the state of negeri sembilan and melaka culinary, the coconut curry and asam pedas(sour spicy). There are no better in the island. They also do subsets of said state culinary like stuffed fish and kapitan gravy with protein. The other dishes are good example of simple home styled dishes that you can find on any malaysian household. I have no pictures and I am writing this at 2AM because thinking back not leaving anything is a gross disservice towards the chef and owner. I will be back tommorow for a second round of dinner and that coming from a local to a local is the highest praise...

I have been looking for an authentic Malay food experience in Malaysia. I have been to KL all over and tried some fantastic food. Then I came to Langkawi and tried many different food spots and enjoyed the food. When I saw Ok Boss, I didn’t take much notice but was received with great hospitality. And then the food came and boy! Was I surprised. It was the most tastiest food I’ve had in my entire Malaysian experience. I’m a big foodie and this is by far the best food in Malaysia. The Kapitan of the kitchen is Ismail and he cooked up some great dishes. He said the recipes were passed down generations. Our best dish was the Prawn Kapitan, full of flavour, richness and warmth. We were recommended to this restaurant by the manager of Arch Studio Cenang, Mr Samir. We were not disappointed with the food, service and price. When we got to the restaurant, we were about an hour early as they only open at 8 pm daily but the owner, Bakar was so accommodating and said that he would open early for us. He then proceeded to show us the menu but was not pushy on the dishes. In fact, he tried to deter us from over-ordering. Tini, his wife did a great job getting the dishes ready in very good time, considering that everything was done from scratch. Bakar was a great host and had such a friendly personality.
