Where do we start?||Let’s start with the place itself and the facilities: nice spacious room, clean, comfortable bed and pillows. There are some quirky handmade wooden features in the room such as wall lamps/lights. Fridges were available for guests to use and the wifi was good. There is a large communal area where people can gather, eat, drink and play games and instruments together. The location is in a quiet area with beautiful surroundings. It’s only a 5-10 minute stroll to shops, bars, restaurants and the beach. ||The things that shine brightest and really stand out at this place, are Mama Yati and Pappa Mas who are the owners. Their love, generosity and kindness are on offer in abundance. We were collected from the Airport as well as being driven across the Island to our next destination. Pappa Mas took us on a lovely walk to a local night market (where we bought way too much food), they played with our kids and gave us invaluable support and information They even organised a surprise Birthday Party for my son, cake banners the lot. These two humans are just incredible and we will never forget our stay here. What makes this place outstanding is really the hosts/owners, Mama Yati and Papa Mas. They treat every guest like family, from the moment they welcome you at the airport (or jetty) to the time they send you back. Mama Yati has endless stories to share about her life, her corporate careers, how she manage her staff, how she fulfilled her dream to open this lodging and continues to have such amazing ideas on how to make it better everyday. You can feel that she does everything with her heart, and she truly loves to connect with every guest.

Breakfast sets are different everyday, surprising you with a mix of local and western dishes. All tasty and nicely presented.

Rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable. Many of the furniture and the new villas still being built are designed and handmade by Papa Mas and his team. Luxurious hotels may be more modern with multiple amenities but can't compare with the genuine human connections and inner peace that you experience here.

Location is perfect, it's at the end of a road where there are other homestays, so it's quiet and has a lovely view of a large field (with a few cows) and the sky. Yet it's just a short walk to the main road and beach area, with many shops and restaurants.

"Why was it excellent?" That is the question prompt by Google. Firstly, the location of Langkawi Country Lodge is surrounded by beautiful green fields - cows are grazing, birds are singing. It is a very peaceful place, away from the loudness of the main roads. The guesthouse is owned by a married couple called Mas and Yati.

However, when you're at the guesthouse you can call them Mama Yati and Papa Mas, because their ethos and their approach to running the guesthouse is to treat guests like they are family. That includes eating together, going on day trips together, as well as treating each other with sincerity and compassion.

Mama Yati loves to cook, and to see other people enjoy her delicious food makes her happy - and they are her own words! I stayed in the dormitory since I am a young, solo traveller, which was clean, comfortable and with AC. Mama Yati took me on a little tour of her guesthouse - because she is very proud of her husband, Papa Mas, who has built many unique features around the property.

I was able to see the private rooms - and I can say that they are very spacious, and have many amenities - ensuite, TV, a wardrobe and more. Anyway, the thing I enjoyed the most about my stay wasn't how comfortable the bed was, or the price, but how you're truly appreciated and cared for by the two hosts, Mama Yati and Papa Mas.
