This IS definitely the best place for breakfast in Kota Bharu!!!
This kopitiam is partially hidden from the main road, but once you have arrived right in front of it, you will be totally mesmerized by the number of customers queing outside, and the ones already inside!! Yes, we had to queue, but it was simply a worthwhile effort, as this is where everybody wants to be...
And once you are inside, dont forget to ask for Roti Titab, which is basically Toast with Halfboiled Egg, plus some butter or kaya spread on top. Its interesting that they bake their own breads and make the kaya spread themself, every single day...and these are the basic items the regular customers couldnt get enough of...
Yes, they also have a whole variety of packed Nasi Dagang, Nasi Ulam, and the likes, which you could just pick along the wall that boasted a huge array of photographs of celebrities and famous customers...their own "Wall of Fame.."
Mr Wong the owner would always make himself available to greet his customers, and we could see clearly that he really enjoyed doing this. The dining area is actually very large, stretching all the way to the rear part of the kopitiam, and all spaces were packed with customers, while new ones were still coming in droves!!
Well, if you havent been here, that means you havent been to Kota...

Another must-try breakfast while in Kota Bharu is Kopitiam Kita and I was glad that we came here on the last day. Just like White House, this spot was super popular with 1Malaysia.
The compound was so huge that they have dining area in front, on the side as well as at the back. One will easily get confused but the sheer number of efficient and motivated service team around will show the tables as well as help around with the requests - a testament of good customer service.
◾Nasi Lemak got our vote with sambal which was balanced between sweet and spicy. ◾Nasi Kerabu was my choice and safe to say that it was polished clean in the end. ◾Nasi Dagang - the gulai sauce was yellowish instead of the usual darkish but not lacking in flavour. ◾Nasi Tumpang was similar to what we had at White House the previous day. ◾Wantan Mee with Chicken Char Siew - the kid ordered this, not us. ◾Roti Titab Pandan Special - not one, but two perfect soft boiled egg + pandan kaya spread on top of the thick toast. Satisfyingly sinful. ◾Drinks were definitely better here.. to be kopi and teh flavours were present and the teh had froth flowing out of the glass.
Managed to strike a conversation with the owner's son who was busy helping around when we were clueless on...
Read moreEmbarking on a delightful weekend excursion to Kota Bharu with my wife and friends, we set our sights on Kopitiam Kita for a scrumptious breakfast. Arriving promptly at 7 am, we found the place already bustling with patrons. Fortunate to secure a table for all of us, we eagerly perused the extensive menu.
The kopitiam offered a diverse array of dishes, with many pre-packed options. Keen on sampling a variety, we indulged in Nasi Daging Kerutuk, Nasi Lemak, assorted desserts, the famed toasts, and refreshing iced cham. Each dish was a culinary delight, leaving us satiated and content.
While contemplating trying their renowned laksam, we were informed it was sold out—a testament to its popularity among locals, as attested by our neighboring table. Undeterred, we vowed to return early on our next visit for a taste of the coveted laksam.
Parking, conveniently available along the street near the kopitiam, posed no challenge. It's noteworthy that Kopitiam Kita observes a weekly closure every Wednesday. Payment flexibility added to the overall convenience, allowing options ranging from cash to e-wallet or interbank transfers—an accommodating feature for those, like us, who prefer to go cashless. We left with satisfied palates and a plan to return for more...
