Kelantan Trip Day 3 Part 2
We managed to visit the famous Pasar Siti Khatijah after breakfast before checking out of our hotel. The traffic was unbelievably heavy on Thursday afternoon and by the time we arrived at the legendary Warisan Nasi Kukus, it was almost past lunch time. Yet the long queue was still forming and stronger as ever.
They have 2 separate lines - one for dine-in and another for takeaway so do not get in the wrong line. Modus operandi is simple - just queue up and wait for your turn where the ordering is similar to ordering nasi kandar.
The sight of numerous dishes such as ayam goreng, ayam percik, ikan bakar, sayur-sayuran, seafood and deep fried stuff quickly made me meleleh air liur.
Nasi Kukus lives up to its reputation - the rice was usually doused with curry.. can opt for non-spicy gravy which is child-friendly but for me, no fun if not spicy. Salted egg is a must for me as well as crunchy deep fried enoki mushroom. And be careful of the chilly sauce on the side as it was really spicy.
It pays to pay extra RM5 (per table) for air-conditioned dining room unless one doesn't mind sweating while eating under the hot weather.
The queue was still there when we left the capital of Kelantan, and there's no prize for guessing why - the nasi kukus was...

Right for dine in. Left for takeaway/bungkus. When it's your turn, just let them know how many you want, and what dishes you want. Pay at the end of the line, for dine in and order your drinks together, which you can collect at the next kiosk.
The curry is nice. But the sambal is spicy for me. One dish that I find so interesting and tasty, is the satay perut (chicken intestine, presumably). I believe it's a specialty here in Kelantan, and it's dipped in percik sauce. It balances the spiciness and tanginess of the curry well.
The crowd can get quite huge sometimes. So be prepared to wait a bit, or you can takeaway back to your house/hotel. It can get super hot and stuffy here in the afternoon, there's no aircond.
Parking is a bit hard. Usually ppl will park in front of the shop, which is pretty limited. Or further down a bit, along the shops, or...

A bright red illuminated sign board is proudly displayed on this stall right in front of the Public Bank in this area.
Immediately you will be greeted by the tantalizing aroma of fried chicken and the sight of over a dozen other scrumptious-looking dishes.
I got to know that the signature dish here is the nasi kukus with ayam goreng berempah (spiced fried chicken) so naturally that's what I went with. Also had some bendi (ladies' finger) and a telur sambal (sambal egg).
The chicken was perfect, requested a thigh piece. The meat was a generous portion, seasoned perfectly, crunchy texture of skin outside but tender and juicy on the inside. The best part is how every part of the dish was just as delicious. Very very value for money.
I would love to eat this regularly but unfortunately I was only in KB for a work trip. So if you're in the area, definitely consider this a must-try. However, do keep in mind that the crowd starts coming...
