Been wanting to give this place a go after seeing it mentioned repeatedly under some fellow food bloggers mentioned the food served here very reasonably. Asides from soup, there's also various steamed double boiled soups served in individual claypots. And how was the rice you might ask? You'll find out the moment the pot of (chicken) rice is brought to the table, there's an unmistakable and heady scent of Chinese rice wine liberally dashed onto the marinade used for the chicken. You can also detect a generous hint of freshly squeezed ginger extract used for marinating the wonderfully tender pieces of chicken
Proof is in the pudding and this did not fail especially when you have the already flavourful chicken rice taken with some sliced bird's eye green chillies. The tangy piquant and spicy chilli slices add much needed depth to the already flavoured rice. This is so delicious that the entire claypot of rice for three is gone before you realise it. We had seconds in an extra order of a single serving of the claypot rice. The double boiled watercress and pork bone soup was the perfect foil to the savoury chicken rice. So much so that all the triple serving or soup was gone together with the delicious rice. In all dinner was tummy rubbingly fantastic especially when you're famished. All in all an enjoyable evening out with the family. Highly...
Read moreListen up, because this is going to be a brutally honest review of the claypot chicken rice. Let me tell you, it wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either. It was just... meh. And that's the worst kind of food - bland, forgettable, and uninspired. But here's the thing, if you're going to eat this dish, you might as well go all out and add some salted fish to give it some flavor.
Now, I have to give credit where credit is due. The soup - oh my goodness, the soup - was actually pretty dang good. Specifically, the pork belly pepper soup. That was the highlight of the meal for me. It had just the right amount of kick to it and the pork belly was cooked to perfection. I could've eaten that soup all day long.
I will say this though, they've recently renovated the place and it's a lot cleaner than it used to be. Plus, if you go in the evenings, it's less crowded and you won't have to fight for a parking spot. So, if you're looking for a decent claypot chicken rice, this place might be worth checking out. But let me be clear, it's the soup menu that really steals...
Read moreCame here for the first time at 8.45pm on a weekday and was sold out, came by on a second time at 6.15pm where theyre quite packed! Was like wow, must be good right?
Maybe because there are so many customers that they didnt have proper standard of making - we ordered extra chicken but still felt like its very little chicken given. Claypot rice didnt get the charred bits and rice wasnt hot enough. Overall very disappointing, rice was very basic that anyone can cook type, no char flavour from being in claypot (not long enough on the fire) Very stingy with chicken. Lacking flavour and not much lapcheong or spring onion too. Overall feeling like they're stingy with ingredients even if customer is paying extra (we added extra egg, extra salted fish and extra chicken)
Have to say their lingao (lotus root) soup is good tho!
would NOT...
