Hainanese Chicken Chop - this has got to be one of the best Hainanese Chicken Chop I've ever had. It tastes just like the one I had had a a kid. I was filled with nostalgia at first bite. It was that powerful for me. The sauce that came with the chicken Chop was also top notch. My mother was scooping up the sauce like she's having a bowl of chicken soup. And the best thing is it was not coated in a thick layer of batter which I really really hate! The layer of batter was just right without making you feel like you're eating crispy fried chicken. And it's healthier too. You should know that the thicker the batter the more oil it soaks up. And you should also know this is mostly vegetable oil that gives you the heart attack that you want to avoid. Ok, anyway, this was the highlight and a highly recommended dish from Ahmajia, apart from their Yin Yong Laksa.
Yin Yong Laksa - a cross between Siam laksa and assam laksa. The noodle dish came with both type of laksa broth divided in the middle. After mixing the broth together, I was instantly hooked at my first taste of the mixed broth. The sourish assam laksa broth mixed with creamier Siam laksa broth led to a complex flavor that danced pleasantly in my mouth.
Stir Fried Chee Cheong Fun with XO Sauce - Another satisfying dish with the XO sauce sufficiently coated each piece of the chee cheong fun evenly giving rise to an even taste to every piece of the noodle.
Assam laksa - after trying out their Yin Yong Laksa. The assam laksa on its own felt inadequate. I can't say it's bad. It's just tasted a bit adulterated. Once I've tasted their signature Yin Yong Laksa, this just won't do it for me anymore. In Roast Pork Curry Noodle - this was surprisingly quite ok for me. I expected it to be the ubiquitous coconut milk flavored curry. How wrong was I! It tastes nothing like the boring and heavily coconut milk flavored curry. It was a bit sweet but with a heavier curry flavor that I like.
Yam Cake - this was not good. The cake easily crumbled upon cutting into it with a spoon. Taste wise it was also quite bland. You can...
Read moreI rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at Ama’s House (Pavilion branch) was extremely disappointing.
At first, everything seemed acceptable – the atmosphere was average but manageable, and the staff who took our order was polite and attentive. However, the situation changed drastically when the dishes were served.
The waiter who brought our food (a male staff wearing glasses) displayed an extremely unprofessional and disrespectful attitude. Instead of basic courtesy, we were met with an expression that made us feel as if our presence was an inconvenience, simply because it was near closing time. He even served the food without using a tray, in a careless and rude manner!!😡😡
Excuse me, but as paying customers, we deserve to be treated with respect. Dining here should never feel like we are disturbing the staff😅😅. This ruined the entire dining experience and left us with a very negative impression😤.
The food itself was mediocre at best, but the poor service completely overshadowed everything else. This was my first visit, and I can confidently say it will also be my last.
I strongly urge management to retrain their staff on proper service etiquette, because this level of service is absolutely unacceptable – it damages not only the restaurant reputation, but also the customers trust. If I could give zero...
Read moreOverall: Nice, comfortable spot for quick, straightforward lunch
Food: The menu mainly consists of local Malaysian fare with some Western options. My wife and I are vegetarian and they happily obliged to modify some dishes to suit us. We ordered Guang Fu Chao (the wet type), Yang Zhou Fried Rice and Tomato Sauce Spaghetti. Guang Fu Chao and fried rice could be a bit more flavorful, but the spaghetti was surprisingly nice. Having said that, prices are reasonable with very decent portion
Service: The lady who took our order seemed to be the head crew, who was friendly and patiently tended to our vegetarian request. The young lady owner also passionately introduced the restaurant while we were chatting over the counter
Atmosphere: Slightly dim interior, which is great for the hot weather. There are some elevated tables nestled in racks akin to double-decker beds, which is cool. There is also an old school sewing machine close to the entrance, which reminded me of my childhood days with grandma, true to its name Ah Ma Jia (Granny's...
