Summary: Recommended if visiting for environment and drinks. Food wise not so recommended especially if you are not into lightly-seasoned food. Drinks wise, just make sure they are chilled enough before you drink. Details: Environment wise all is good, during peak hours will be a bit noisy but it’s expected. Do expect to wait a little if you’re visiting during peak hours, but staff were friendly and explained that we need to wait a while. Their queue system is pretty organized and you’ll be given a small plastic tag with number indicated. Overall the restaurant looks clean and their work station looks pretty organized. Upon entering the restaurant you’ll see a good selection of their freshly baked pastries and their drinks. They have a pretty good selection of food and beverage items but what we’ve ordered didn’t meet our expectations. We ordered YinYong (冰镇鸳鸯) and Coffee (冰镇咖啡). Taste wise, the coffee/ tea taste were strong/ “kaw” enough with a right balance between coffee/ tea and milk. The sweetness was just right but they weren’t chilled enough when they were first served as they emerged in a bucket of ice cubes. Towards the end of our meal the drinks tasted better as they were chilled enough. Food wise, we’ve ordered the Polo Bun (菠萝包), Macau Pork Chop Bun with fries and Luncheon Meat Cubes with Egg Rice. This depends on personal preference but the food tasted quite light for us. Polo Bun - personally I liked how soft and nice the bread was and the crust on top have a nice crunch to it. Macau Pork Chop Bun with fries - the pork chop itself was very lightly marinated as you can only taste the a hint of Nam Yu (南乳) on the outer layer. There weren’t much flavor (salt/ pepper) on the fries itself. Luncheon Meat Cubes with Egg Rice - we liked the egg which they’ve put over the rice, luncheon meat and rice wise, they were alright but overall the dish wasn’t fragrant or seasoned enough. We felt that the sauce they’ve poured over the dish could’ve been more than just a simple soy sauce, perhaps added with a little sesame oil or fried onion/ shallot oil.

Today is my first visit to the restaurant, which is just right next to Nian Dai KopiDiam at Setapak 33. I ordered the "Four Bakers", which consists of a portugese egg tart, a chicken puff pastry, a char siew puff pastry and a char siew bun. Out of the 4, my favorite is the portugese egg tart, which tasted pretty decent to me. The crust was crispy, and the filling has a delicate sweetness to it. As for the rest, I can't say I am a fan. The char siew filling tasted so so, although I do like the texture of the bun, which had a nice crisp outside and was pillowy soft on the inside. My least favorite is the chicken puft pastry. Not only was the filling meager (same for the char siew puff pastry and bun), the taste was not to my liking at all. The saving grace was the polo bun, which to my surprise, tasted pretty good. The crunchiness and the sweetness of the "pineapple crust" went really well soft bun, yum! My kids ordered the soupy nissin instant noodles with luncheon meat, scrambled eggs and corn, which they enjoyed very much, although after I tasted it, you know what, you can cook this at home and add all the extra ingredients without having to pay RM13.50, and your version would probably tastes better too. With all that said, I think I would only come back if my kids request me to, or if I'm really craving for a polo bun.

Overall, puff pastry is great, flavor is good but on the lighter side of things, and coffee is on par with a decent chinese kopitiam. Place is slightly noisy as the shop is narrow and kitchen is not fully partitioned off. More detailed review below: Mango & Grilled Chicken Baked Rice (curry sauce): Chicken is tender, curry sauce is great, however the egg fried rice underneath is a tad too dry for me. Pork Chop Bun with Fries: Crispy and tender pork chop, seems lightly marinated with Nam Yu (fermented bean curd), served with vegetables and cheese sauce. Fries are thick cut, whether you like it or not depends on your personal preference. Pork Lard Char Siew Bun: Small in size but packed full with fillings. Filling is less salty, but still flavourful. Pastry is nice and flaky, but I will prefer a thicker skin for the texture. Salted Egg Puff with Spicy Chicken Filling: Just a hint of salted egg flavor on the nice and flaky skin, filling isn't spicy, but still flavourful like the char siew bun. Portugese Tart: One of the best combinations. really good puff pastry and custard with just the right amount of sweetness. Certainly a must try here.

I really like this place alot. I have been coming here a lot of times. :/

Came in today for lunch around 1pm and ordered the cheese baked char siew and siew yok, but for some reason they written it as prawn. This is fine since the order was corrected later with one of the waiter.

However, when I went to the cashier to pay. I explained to the boy wearing glasses that the order they keyed in was wrong. And have also explained that the food have been corrected with the waiter already just the receipt wasn't updated. Everything was clarified and we proceed with the payment. I didn't check the receipt as I decided to trust him that he already made the changes (since this is one of my usual spot I eat at).

But upon reaching home, I saw the receipt and realized no changes were made and was still charged for something I didn't eat. :(

TLDR:

  1. They got the order wrong (which is still okay)
  2. They were notified about the error and proceed to amend it (which is good)
  3. They charged for the wrong order instead of the correct one even after explaining and showing the picture (which is bad)

But lesson learned, should have just checked the receipt even though it's the...
