We were greeted with some flies on our cutlery, they took it away without exchanging a clean set for us. Small matter, we could change it ourselves. Cosy place but I guess it comes with a price. Server works really fast but at times they are not very alert to collect the dishes that empty, even with prompting. Those who review saying price is reasonable, I guess we forgot reasonable price have to match with the portion. We went with a party of 9 adults and 2 toddlers. Hence we ordered mostly huge portion, which can come really pricey. Green curry Chicken dish that charges us RM38, I guess it doesn’t match the portion given. All in all, the dishes all come in really small portion and we ended up ordering 5 meat, 2 vege, 1 tom yum soup, 1 omelette, 1 fried rice and 4 portion of rice. And lots of drinks.
Not to mention, everything is chargeable here in Baan Rao. Sky juice, sold for RM1.50. Lemon grass water (mind u not less sweet or no sugar option) was being charged RM16 and we can’t even serve everyone with one small cup each. We ended up ordering the second jug without ice and it’s so much worthwhile. Ice filled the jug mostly, quite disappointing. We felt this place is looking into earning every single cent without the generosity of giving certain things free flow like how other Thai eateries are, ie, rice and pandan water etc.
Pork neck and pork knuckles are two huge let down, pork neck (other place can make it really tender and fragrant, here it smells porky greatly and felt really more like charsiew) comes with pitiful 5 pcs of wrap (u can definitely see we come in a grp of 11 pax, charge us more if u need, come on. Pork knuckle, indeed is overfried (hard like rock) and mostly bone. Sorry to say, I told my family, sorry, this is my first and last time here in Baan Rao. So much room for...
Read more2nd visit here cause we like the food taste, but we had a very unpleasant experience on our 2nd visit. We ordered 4 dishes for 4 pax, each dish was served but quite long gap between each dish. We were waiting for our last dish (sambal petai pork) and after 50 mins, the waiter came over with sambal seafood petai (wrong dish, was actually ordered by the table next to us), so we immediately told the waiter and he passed it to the other table. Then after 10 mins, another waitress came and told us they ran out of petai. Hello? You could have told us that you only have one serving of petai right? After an hour only they came to inform. It was more infuriating to know that the table next to us received it very late as well and we placed our order before them. So not sure why their order was prioritised and ours was missed out. We’re left with plenty of rice (because we finished our 3 other dishes and was waiting for the last dish to arrive) and unpleasant experience.
Hope the management will train the staffs better to timely inform if the dish is not available.
Noted quite a lot of fake 5 stars reviews on Google as well (I’m watching you, all those reviewers with...
Read moreFinally got to try this Thai food place which is located rather near us but yet didn’t really make an effort to try as it seems to be crowded most of the time we passed by. We reached early at about 6.15pm to avoid the dinner crowd but the place was already half full with many tables booked. Place is quite spacious inside but larger groups would need to seat outside at the veranda. Nice comfy ambience inside aircon area. Generally clean & prompt service. The menu was quite extensive and some of the items are rather different from the usual as it’s supposed to be Northern Ayutthaya cuisine. We ordered 4 dishes as per pics. Comments on individual dishes within the pics caption. Overall we rated the food at an average 3/5. Other than the platter which should exclude from any orders, the rest of the dishes were ok. Prices considered steep and even drinking water were charged Rm1:50 each despite us ordering beer & desserts ! Will I return - probably not. There are far too many Thai restaurants that offer comparable if not better food for...
