As a food enthusiast who relies on recommendations and social media buzz, I visited Big Tree Lin Kee with high hopes to try their renowned steamed fish head, known for attracting people from all over Kuala Lumpur. Unfortunately, my first experience left me somewhat disappointed, as the taste of the Ginger Sauce Steamed Fish failed to live up to the hype.
The ginger sauce lacked the robust flavor I was expecting, with a noticeable dilution from an excess of water. The gravy lacked the punch and depth of ginger, making it less flavorful compared to other establishments in Chan Sow Lin, which have managed to master the art of creating a rich and satisfying steamed fish head.
Moving on to the Crispy Chicken Wings, I found the fermented bean paste coating to be soft and tasteless, failing to deliver the desired texture and bold flavors. Restoran Zhen Liew Siang at Sentul serves far superior Crispy Chicken Wings, with a delightful crunch and a more pronounced taste that leaves a lasting impression.
On a positive note, the deep-fried special seafood Tofu stood out as a highlight. The homemade creation had a crispy exterior and a soft, satisfying interior, showcasing the chef's skill in preparing this dish.
The stir-fried Lettuce dish was generously portioned, but unfortunately, it lacked flavor and depth. It had a rather flat taste that left much to be desired in terms of seasoning and creativity.
The pumpkin barley drink, unfortunately, fell short of expectations as well. It was overly diluted, missing out on the richness and flavors that make this beverage enjoyable.
Considering my overall experience, I don't think I would return specifically for the steamed fish head, as there are other places in the city that offer a more satisfying rendition. However, I would still recommend Big Tree Lin Kee to those who are not particularly discerning about their food, as it may still appeal to a less demanding palate.
While I believe that all operators work hard to maintain their businesses, it is important to provide honest feedback to help establishments improve and meet the expectations of discerning...

Read moreNow this is a gem which I certainly enjoyed. A good buddy of mine has been trying to get me to come here to makan but I never had the chance as he specifically wanted us to come during a weekend. Well finally I did and we had an amazing lunch. Shop opens early @ 10.30 and open till 3pm. We arrived at 11.30am and omg it was so packed. They do the usual covid sop with the mysejahtera check and temperature check but the 1m social distancing might be a bit iffy. Waiters are friendly and the menu size is just right. I enjoyed the lime juice but the barley pumpkin drink was bit too healthy tasting for me. Ok so service was fast and restaurant was clean. Why did we come during the weekend was to try their special steam herbal chicken which is cooked in a coconut. Super flavourful! Chicken meat just falls of the bone. Herbs are nice and u get a mild coconut flavour coming into the end. It's has a slight sweetness from the chinese dates. Really good, loved it. Then we had steam fish- took grass carp & jade perch. Although both are fresh water fish, no sandy taste and honestly it was super fresh. We tried their house speciality seafood tofu which was awesome as well. Vinegar pork knuckles I think was also yummy. The meat was nice & tender and I did not find the vinegar overpowering. For vege we had the 4 heavenly kings in sambal belacan. This also was super as the veg was not overcooked like most restaurants. Overall this place is the bomb. If I wanted to nitpick then parking here is a hassle and if u come through the housing area you might totally miss this restaurant as it's hidden behind a row of teres house as it's in their back alley. Either way good experience, good food and will certainly...
