TRADITIONAL & REFINED Very rarely eat Kampong fare lunch outside the home in the Klang Valley but this time we were on the TTDI side leading to Sungei Pencala so we ended up at this place. The place was airy, spacious and the seating area not cramped. The buffet had overhanging big pendant lights. Not only was the decor tastefully done up, there were enough wash basins available if eating with fingers not to have to queue. Although lunch time was busy, everything at this self-service place flowed freely. Super friendly staff especially the woman at the beverage station. Self-service on meals but order the drinks. Order yourself one and they don't sweat if they have to come and get the group's order. The menu that I picked consisted of paru goreng (deep-fried lung pieces), pucuk ubi & nangka masak lemak ( cassava leaves & jackfruit pieces cooked in coconut turmeric gravy), boiled lady's fingers and pucuk paku ( fresh ferns). I found the Ketam masak lemak so irresistible so I took that too.Hamid ate daging kawah (beef cooked in a cauldron) with telur Asin (salted duck egg). Add iced tea & syrup drink that came in time before you can choke from thirst, the bill came to RM26. It was a hot day but for God's sake, this is what Malaysia is all about. The cats were pesky but for cat lover Hamid, they were clean enough to...
Read moreIt's not quite a secret but while the ever-popular Sambal Hijau nearby looks crowded and cramped, this place is often overlooked. But it's one of the best places for Kelantanese food in town, and one of the best-looking as well. The decor is simple but the layout feels refreshing with the breeze coming through, like having a meal at the verandah of a typical Malay house. There's the stray fried tempe, but it's 99% east coast mainstays, and fresh gulai kawah daily. The ulam/sayur celur (blanched vegetables) selection is impressive as well with the standard dips and sauces inc tempoyak. There's nasi kerabu and nasi dagang for breakfast and if they haven't run out you can have them for lunch. There's about a half-dozen deserts on selection daily including fresh bubur pulut hitam (glutinous rice soup) and akok (a type of eggy pancake). I've been bringing friends both with East Coast heritage and not, and it's always a hit. Standard Malay buffet serving style and Malaysian drinks list (so while I'm sure there's a menu I don't see ppl...
Read moreThe food here is great, came here for simple Malaysian breakfast. Arrived at around 10am and most nasi already sold out. We had nasi lemak and roti canai. The taste of food is GREAT, especially its curry, all food is flavourful. Ordered teh aise, and it is not too sweet compared to other mamak shop. It is self service and all in Malay, so go with a local. There's a lot of local malay dishes that's attractive but didn't get to try as already full with the dishes we ordered. Will definitely be back.
It's self service. It is a huge restaurant with outdoor roofed area and indoor air-conditioned room, considered a clean place compared to most local warungs or stalls. Despite no smoking law in restaurant, there is someone smoking nearby our tables which discounted...
