I have seen this roadside food truck on FB and Insta for months and months and looked for an opportunity to go. Finally bit the bullet and went this evening... Just nope.
The location was difficult to find parking and generally felt unsafe - I parked a few minutes walk away and got there on foot. Forget going if it is raining.
When I was there the place was not busy but I thought that's okay - a slow night doesn't necessarily mean I shouldn't try it. I tried the kambing lambak which the guy at the counter recommended if I was in the mood for lamb which he said he felt tasted better than the lamb stiq.
Waited over 20 minutes. The lamb was hot and sticky with sweet bbq sauce. Oh my. Too sweet. The flavour of the lamb barely got through. Im sure to many, this would have been amazing but I was disappointed. When I eat meat, especially meat that is raved about, I expect to taste said meat. Not the sauce.
The side of lettuce and tomato was fine. Crunchy cool lettuce and basic tomatoes.
The potato... Was bad. Looked good but totally failed texture and taste wise. I could tell it was prepared in advance. That wasn't the issue, made in advance potatoes can be delicious. The issue was that in their preparation to serve it to me, it was only warm on the surface - still cold in the middle. And despite the advance prep of it, the potato in the middle was undercooked which taste bleh. The topping of mayo and beef bacon could not save it. I ate half and could not eat more (which is saying something).
The little bowl of bbq sauce I tasted only a little of and dipped my lettuce in slightly. I saw no need to use it with the potato or the lamb.
The other reason I gave 1 star is that on the first table I sat at there were a couple of baby cockroaches that roamed the table making me lose my appetite. Also, the general construction around the area smelled bad and affected what I was hoping to be a pleasant meal. Oh, and the music they played was too loud and I personally didn't care for it. Wish it had just been some ambient background songs.
In the end, I wished I had saved myself the RM27 I spent and eaten at home. I would have been more satisfied with something I rustled up myself.
In short, it isn't well located, the cleanliness of the area is questionable, the food was a let down (unless you are the type that loves your meat to taste like sweet sauce).
HOWEVER, I DID NOT eat anything else so I can not definitively say if nothing else on the menu is good. I can only say, I won't be returning to stiq to try any of it based on my one off meal there. Nothing was memorable enough to convince me it will...
Read moreHaven't been to Stiq for years now. The last I went there was pre-covid years so I decided to head there with some friends. I've been having in mind to order their signature 'Beef Stiq' which is exactly what I ordered.
Nothing has changed in terms of their plating which is the beef brisket that's slow cooked for 16 hours. I ordered the 2-3 person portion size which is about 600-700g as I was sharing with a friend. The portion was not disappointing at all and was very satisfied with the serving.
The meal comes with a side of oven baked potatoes topped with beef bacon bits and topped with mayo. I really love their roasted potatoes which unfortunately they don't have it as an add-on on their menu. The dish also comes with a side of salad and some grilled onions which were delicious as well. You also get a free soft drink with the main that you order.
The beef brisket was super tender pairing really nicely with their barbecue sauce which is slightly sweet and tangy.
Since I haven't been here in so long, the quality and taste of the food is still as good as I remembered and definitely recommended considering the price and portion given. Will want to try their lamb options the next round I visit. If its anything like the beef brisket, I'm sure it'll...
