My experience is an outlier as others had a great experience here. Wanted to try by myself first before recommending/bringing my family here.
Food Intended to try their specialty live grilled eel but due to the unfavorable impression at the start, went with the their most basic eel dish that I could see, the marinated half eel. The taste and texture of the eel was ok in general but expected more due to the price and the rice portion was small. Was still hungry after finishing. The soup did not have enough flavor. The chawanmushi, at least I think it is, unsure how to describe it, didn't finish it.
Service Arrived at the same time together with two other parties. I was in the middle. Unsure why the waiter skipped me and served the couple behind me first after they served the one in front of me. There was only one table left, so it was given to them and was told that there is a table available for me but need to finished by 7pm as it was reserved. Since I was queueing in front of them, shouldn't it be the other way around? Perhaps I should have clarify in the beginning whether they serve dine in for one person. In the end, the other party decides not to dine and the table was given to me instead. By then, I already have an unfavorable impression of this place but since I am already here and the high praise of the food by others, might as well.
Environment Vaguely remember it looks nice. Was too bothered by the service to look around.

Read moreI highly recommend coming to Sumita if you love fresh Japanese food. Honestly, I've never been a super fan of Japanese food, but Sumita is an exception. I came here on 13/5/23, to celebrate an early Mother's Day dinner and it was my first time. 1st impression, the place is very cozy and not too big which is fine. No complain.
The waiters and waitresses are very attentive. The minute you finish your drink halfway or finished your drink, they would immediately fill it up for you. They are also quick to respond when you call for them.
We ordered the Unagi set, Saba set, some ebiko sushi, croquette, beef skewers (Sorry if I forgot the real name of the menu), and ALL of it tastes so fresh & good! Even the Matcha ice cream tastes good.
I'd say the price of the food is reasonable. Though the unagi set is a bit on the pricey side, but the portion & taste is worth it.
Highly recommended! Will definitely come...

I liked the food served here, we ordered 4 items from the menu and all were delicious, I must say. At the end of the meal, I had a satisfaction feeling. We ordered Dragon Maki, Shake Teriyake, Beef Skewer, and Edamame. The dragon maki was the highlight for me because it was delicious, the prawn was fried to a nice crunch and tasty, the sauce goes so well together with the whole roll. The menu options for now are not that extensive, maybe because they want to concentrate on delivering quality food to customers. They may be lacking in servers, therefore, do expect some waiting time during...
