Ok let me share my experience dining at tandoorihut at jalan ampang. So went there cause saw a video that is going VIRAL and they state "THE BEST CHEESE NAAN IN KL". In video it looks wow so we thought ok lets try it.
Came at about 9pm, it was full with people, a long queue of people to order food so thought of wow this must good since a large crowd dining in and takeaways as well. So we waited for an available table for us to be seated and eventually got one. we ordered our food and waited and waited , still no sign of any food received. Only drinks that is given and by this time our drinks is like half cup left. Still no sign of food received at ard 945pm. So i stood up and ask the lady who prepare the food and it shocks me as when i saw the order slip it is still on queue 158. And our queue number was like 170. At the side of it most of the grabdrivers is still waiting for their orders to be ready as well. And some waited for about 30 mins or so.
Saw the naan was all ready and was placed at the preparing station, but still none of us received anything yet. And it is already 10pm at this time. Waited again.. while waiting saw 4 crew in the naan station and 1 at the cashier , 1 serving the food and 1 preparing the food. And people all started to come to the preparing station and ask the lady when is their food to be ready. And some even went to the prepare station and took their order themselves and self service. To a great shock, that lady at the preparation counter is alone preparing both grab delivery orders and dine in orders?! Speechless.
So finally we received our orders at 1030pm after 1 and half hours waiting, it is such a disappointment as the naan was cold , the gravy was all cold , the tandoori is cold and the taste was just meh.
As this is just my 2 cents thought, i think they should have deploy more staffs to help at the preparation counter and also if they know they are not able to handle multiple orders or more orders coming in they should have close the orders for deliveries or alternatively place 1 for preparing grab orders and another for dine in customer. But again, this post is not to obliged anyone who wants to try it out at their own discretion. But seriously i have taste better naan and tandoori chicken in KL. and this is not...
Read moreBack in the 2000s, this was literally a hut styled shop beside what used to be a guitar shop (which is now Kedai Kopi KL), serving delicious naan bread and tandoori chicken cooked under charcoal fire, and offered side dishes that were appetising. Cut to present day, where they occupied the shop beside Kedai Kopi KL, with tables for patrons strewn in the pathways that stretched to a few shops and were always filled to the brim, and with long, non-stop queue, tandoori chicken stacked and just busy, busy, busy. Was it good like I had it 20 years ago? If you opt for the naan bread, yes it’s still good, but not great. It’s pretty much above average (and yes it’s still cooked under charcoal fire) but I do have an issue with the Kashmiri naan (traditionally served with dried fruits and nuts), which they served with candied cherry (yes, the type that you see on top of your festive cookies). The dhall servings were little so if you’re not opting for the side dishes, be prepared to eat most of your naan bread dry. The chicken’s nice and moist but I know a few places that serves pretty much the same chicken (and naan bread), and I don’t have to wait long for it. Keema was a tad too watery, aloo gobi was creamy though. Palak paneer was bland. Totally bland. Yes it’s good, but I wouldn’t say it’s best in town. Pretty average. Not a very comfortable place to sit and have your meal, especially if you’re stuck getting a dark corner where you can hardly see your food. Either I want to see my food clearly or bring me to one of those dine in dark place, not some shadowy place where I see half of my food and have an eyesore. If it’s not too busy, sure I’ll go in and have my fix, but not when it’s busy. Guess when you are famous, the quality’s kinda dip down too eh? P.S - don’t trust everything that...
Read moreBeen going to this place for over 10 years now, before they moved into where they are now. The taste of tantoori chicken has been kept mostly the same over the years which is great and tantoori chicken is the main attraction for the place. Naan has gone down a bit from 10+ years ago but I believe that's due to the fall in quality with all food ingredients everywhere in the world in the past 10-20 years. In order to keep price hikes as little as possible, almost all sellers and buyers ended up in being forced to take the fall in quality. Great naan has to begin with great flour and that's where the drop in quality shows if your taste buds are sensitive enough to tell the difference. I'm a huge naan lover and in a way I consider it one of the best gauges for telling the cooking skill level of any place, even more than the tantoori chicken. The 3 types of curry sauces that come with naan aren't anything to ring home about, in my personal opinion, but they definitely suffice. The mutton masaIa isn't to my liking because the meat isn't tender and there's not much flavor other than the curry taste. I do love their plain teh (Indian tea) so much I can drink a couple each time, not the one with milk, just the plain tea. Overall this is the kind of place I can return many times without hesitation. If you are into tantoori chicken then try this place out...
