Overall a pretty decent restaurant to go to and highly recommend it to those who crave for Indonesian food. First of all, the restaurant design went for the open concept with no air-conditioning system. Fortunately there's no problem with heated up environment and it feels like it was sufficiently aired and ventilated in the interior space. There are two different modes of seating offered which are the usual table and chair seating mode and the table and sit on the raised floor mode to give off that traditional Indonesian way of eating. Next, the restaurant is kept at an acceptable level of hygiene.
In term of the foods offered, there are quite a bunch of Indonesian foods offered which are in my opinion pretty good! The gado², ayam bakar and fried chicken are really good. But in my opinion, what's best about this restaurant is the Combo Meals offered are quite a bargain! I always ordered the 3 people combo set that will get you a set of rice for 3 people, gado² set, 2 pieces of ayam bakar/goreng/etc of your choice, fried chicken set of 3, and 3 mineral water.. This is the best thing offered for the restaurant for its value and the exceptional taste! Plus, there are also chilli sambal and sweet soy sauce placed on each table which is really good to be used in line with your meal!
However, in comparison with the real Wong Solo in Indonesia, there are no duck meal and sambal hijo offered here in the branch in Malaysia and few other meals available in Indonesia.. So maybe, if possible, the branch in Malaysia can also offer some of the meal available there!
But in the end, I highly recommend people to come and give this restaurant a shot for those who want to try Indonesian cuisine and get a good value out of...
Read moreCraving a taste of Indonesia? Wong Solo hits the spot! This restaurant consistently delivers delicious and authentic Indonesian cuisine, making it a regular haunt for me.
My go-to order is the set ayam bakar (grilled chicken). The chicken itself is always perfectly cooked, with crispy skin and juicy flesh bursting with flavor. The accompanying sambal is a delightful fiery dance on your tongue, and the sides of rice, vegetables, and tempeh complete the satisfying picture.
However, I've noticed a trend lately: the size of the ayam bakar seems to be shrinking with each visit. While the taste remains top-notch, I can't help but miss the generous portions of the past. It's still a satisfying meal, but it would be nice if they could bring back the old-school ayam bakar size.
One thing that never changes at Wong Solo is the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant is clean and bright, and the staff is always friendly and attentive. I believe they're all Indonesian, which adds to the authentic experience.
Getting to Wong Solo is a breeze, but finding parking can be a bit of a challenge. It's located in a busy area, so be prepared to circle the block a few times or opt for a nearby parking garage.
Overall: Despite the shrinking ayam bakar, Wong Solo remains a top choice for Indonesian food in town. The delicious flavors, friendly service, and clean atmosphere make it a worthwhile experience. Just be prepared to face a...
Read moreThe food was a letdown. I ordered the ayam penyet, and while it was expensive (which is expected for Cheras), the quality didn't match. The chicken itself lacks spice, and the sambal was just hot without any savoury flavour. This is also the only penyet I've been to that doesn't include soup. You want me to eat your dehydrated rice with my tears from the sambal issit?
The service was the worst part. I arrived at 12:00 PM, and the shop was completely empty—it was just me and the staff. Even so, I had to get the food at the counter myself once I put my order. They forgot my water order. The food came out after 10 minutes, and I had to wait another 10 minutes just for my water to arrive. A 20-minute total wait when I was the only customer is unacceptable.
To top it off, I wonder if they bought the ice for my drink from the top of Everest or from the depth of the arctic, because there was so little, it already melted before I even got my food.
Even though the place was empty, it still felt noisy and not relaxing. Overall, a very...
