I never had such dining experience in Malaysia & SG. It happened in Oct, we drove all the way from SG to KT. I am Malaysian who been staying in SG for 15 years. I always rooted for Malaysia food & always told my friends in SG that they can go to any makan place in Malaysia, it usually good. Service also better than in SG. The trend in recent years is many people prefer to google, read reviews then choose the makan place. As i am not familiar to Kuantan, so i googled & found this place with many good reviews. Turn out this is my worst dining experience & i will be more careful in reading google reviews.
We are family of 4 adults & 4 young kids. We arrived for lunch after 4-5 hours drive, was tired but excited to try out the curry. It is a small shop with indoor & outdoor seat. No one is queuing, however it still took time for the staff to attend us. We had to sit separately but it's ok. We don't mind.
We placed food order at the counter, wanted to order drink too but decided to do it later as we know kids won't eat their food if drink come first. We waited for at least 10-15 mins for food to arrived. My young son that is 3.5 years old was cranky while waiting. Husband brought him to walk around nearby & they came back with a bubble tea drink for my son. That time the food has arrived, i was handling my 6 years old son who has autism, it was hard. I noticed the drink that my son is sipping occasionally but didn't think much. We were sitting outdoor that time.
Here came the 30+ lady who wearing specs & in black clothes. She was clearing plates from nearby table & when she passed by us, she pointed the drink beside my young son said it is not allowed. Then pointed to the sign on their shop front. No Outside Drink Allowed. She certainly not very friendly in her tone & just about to walk away. I said it is for my young son just to tame him down, so can he?. She turned to me & said firmly "Well then you have to pay RM1 for drinking it here. You asked me isn't it?"
I was seriously shocked by her response & for awhile, i couldn't believe what i heard. That time my son who has autism still need me to care for him so i can't continue the conversation too. I said thank you for your service & she walked away too. I told my husband about the accident as he just came back from toilet.
So when we all finished our food, my husband went inside look for her to pay the RM1.We got a receipt for that. My husband sure that she is the young owner, hence she can be rude & don't care about service.
Never once we encounter ppl come to ask for money for the outside drink or snack that my young children have in their restaurant. We've been to small eateries, normal restaurant till 5 star hotel restaurant. They're usually friendly to kids, close one eyes. First time ever, a small cafe owner was not able to comprehend such situation & told customer to pay for RM1. If not because of her service, we would have order drinks for the rest of us at her restaurant when we about to finish food. She could have earn much more than RM1. Remember we have 4 adults & 4 children? We were all thirsty but we rather drink water back in car. My other family member was reaching Kuantan that time & i literally texted them not to come to Jess Cafe.
Her staff have better attitude towards customer than her. Food wise, the curry was a bit overrated. We were not impressed. Not because of the incident. Just that we all think it taste is quite normal. I came back googled this shop's low rating reviews. I found similar reviews talk about bad service & normal food. I should have read that first.

Read moreMy wife and I will think about this place whenever come to Kuantan. It is definitely one of our food selection list.
Environment The place offers cozy atmosphere. The table settings suit mostly 2 to 4 pax. If you have bigger group than this, you might have to wait for the merging in good opportunity.
Food portion Definitely big. My wife and I ordered and shared one curry noodle, the splitted portion still fill up my stomach and will last to next meal. If you are big eater, one portion would be enough for you. Extra big eater, of course you might have to add on.
Quality I'd love it. 5 out of 5 star for me. The taste is subjective to individual. However, I see the business is very good, occassionally you might have to queue up for your seat. In this context, I believe the taste suits a lot of people. I have eaten Yong Tau Fu most of the time, each pieces and taste flow to my heart.
Facilities If you expect walking distance within 30 seconds from the parking to Cafe, unless you are just in luck otherwise you will have to park somewhere nearby with 2 to 3mins walking distance . This would not be the main concern if you eager to try their food. Our car was parked the row behind. So, we were good at it. The cafe is equipped with Aircond, only a few tables at outside. I feel the temperature not that bad if sit outside unless under super hot day. Well, most people easily find compensation method by ordering cold drink.

Read moreDiscovered this place from one of the foodie site. So, we went to check it out for breakfast since our initial choice for curry noodle was closed.
We wanted curry noodle and YTF. And this place ticked all the boxes. No regrets coming here.
The Curry Noodle was yummilious. Not overly lemak - just nice. The YTF, although pricey ... RM 3 per piece, were superb. The YTF were generously stuffed with fish paste mixed with pork meat.
I was told to try the Lembing Noodle coz can't get in KL. Tried it today. Just like the noodle used in our KL wantan mee. No big deal lah.
But the Curry Noodle and YTF, I give...
