All About Pahang - Bentong

Funny name to choose for a restaurant I must say. But 126 is now back into my list to go when in Bukit Tinggi area. This restaurant used to be my go-to lunch/dinner place whenever I passed by enroute to KL. Back then they used to operate from another location nearby before moving to a more spacious building - their old place is occupied by another restaurant already.

The guy manning the restaurant whom I assumed part of the management (or owners) had a very good memory as he still remember me after so many years. In fact he pointed out our eldest daughter (now 14) used to be a baby when we first brought her there.

◾steamed tilapia with taucu sauce - the elders wanted to eat fish that evening, and the fish didn't have muddy taste to it and the taucu sauce was appetizing. ◾deep fried squid - my choice if I want deep fried seafood. I could just munch on this dish alone. ◾stir fried pork belly - everywhere you go in Bukit Tinggi there's this dish. The difference is whether the meat was deep fried or simply stir fried with the sweet & savoury sauce. In this case it was the latter. ◾beancurd with minced meat - kids loved it! ◾stir fried "tin cat" 田七 - the eldest daughter liked this dish. ◾stir fried yin yong vegetables - not available everytime but when it does, I'd be sure to order it.

This time I brought a bottle of grenache along and it went well...

Cash only. Never inform or put a signboard saying cash only. Its a very big seafood restaurant where normally big family goes there to eat. We are not talking about rm5 rm10. Zap fan economic rice here. We are talking about one time whole family eat rm100 to rm1000 type. Owner should be considerate. I was lucky i just had enough cash. If not the nearest bank is 5km away at genting sempah. And i told the staff about this. I told him. How do ur customer pay? Be more considerate ok. He just brush off with lansi attitude : PAY CASH ONLY LA.

In this day and age not 1990 1980 anymore. Where we are talking about cashless. Owner should atleast come ouy with more mood of payment. Grab. Tng . Cc etc.

Staff attitude not good and quite lansi.(probably hes in intense pressure . As can see this restaurant is VERY under staffed in the front end. Basically just 1 staff ordering the dish. Abother guy 2 guy cleaning.

Tong po yok over cooker

I urge people not to support this retaurant ATM unless they change their attitude. As their staff seem to have this attiude : u tak suka u keluar la. Many ppl eat from...

We were regulars when they were still operating at the previous lot. Today is our first visit to their new location which is spacious, airy and clean.

Ordered :-

  1. Wild board curry @ RM15 - As tasty as always. Sauce is thick, creamy and aromatic. Meat is as tender as always.
  2. Cha Yoke @ RM15 - we wanted cha yoke as in Hakka cha yoke but the got it wrong. Their rendition of cha yoke here is deep fried the pork belly slices! Crispy and good as finger food with beer, not rice!
  3. Minced meat tofu @ RM10 - Minced meat is savoury and the egg tofu is silky.
  4. Lokan/lala is special broth @ RM20 - This was just moderate.

Overall, a good meal and satisfying meal. Service is lightning fast. From order to serve in less than 5 minutes! I've never encounter service crew pouring tea for you in setup like this. Very apologetic when they got my order wrong and a many "thank you" from all servers as we left the place. Bill came to RM71 (including rice and Chinese tea) They round it up @ RM70. Nice gesture! Keep up...

A favourite place of ours whenever we are at Bukit Tinggi. We usually plan our lunch stop here. The restaurant is found on the first floor and offers a great view of the surrounding hills. A favourite of customers is their mi hoon noodles cooked with fish. Prices are reasonably moderate, for example today we had claypot chicken with mushrooms, stir-fried 4 types of beans and aubergines, egg omelette with shrimp. The bill with rice and a potbof Chinese tea total MYR 48. The young owner, Ah Poh is a friendly guy and he is very helpful to suggest dishes and menu items. Bukit Tinggi is famous for its fresh delicious veggies and ginger. Among them is young baby French Beans, Tin Chat (a type of leaf which has a texture of seaweed and makes a lovely soup). Others are Yin Yong veggie ( a cross between Kailan, a local Kale and Choy Sum). Ask Ah Poh to cook some of these special veggies for you to try. And make sure you buy some to take back from the many stalls around the area.
