Pork Organ Soup (All Mixed) + 1 Yam Rice = RM13.00 Barley (Hot, No Sugar) = RM2.00 No Service Charge

This is a Michelin Bib Gourmand Food Stall.

According to some sources, So apparently the Owner enjoyed eating Yam Rice so much when he was in Singapore, he went back to Penang, tweaked the First Yam Rice Stall in Bukit Mertajam in 1983.

At its Core, this is basically 豬杂汤. The Eatery itself is a Big and Old Looking Kopitiam. There were noticeably quite alot of Customers although not Full House on a Thursday Morning at 9.00am. Its not Airconditioned although still quite Airy and Cooling. The Staffs are Friendly and Keep to Themselves.

Before taking a Seat, just go ahead and order what you want. Its very Easy to order too if you want Every Parts Cham Cham. It was served up very promptly in 2 Mins.

Now the Big Difference that this Place was compared to regular Pig Organ Soup in Singapore is the Sheer Variety of Pig Spare Parts that are available. I think other than Brain, basically EVERY Spare Parts you can think of is all here. This may be the Most Comprehensive 猪杂汤 I've ever eaten so far. Not even in JB have I had a Spare Part list that is so Comprehensive.

I won't describe in detail every Spare Parts, so I'll just pick a Few. The Pig Blood is Not Super Firm, also Not Super Soft. Texture was just nice. I also liked that it was served in Quite Big Cuts.

Meatballs tasted like they're Handmade, Firm and Bouncy. Lean Meats, Belly and Intestines were Chewy, Not Overly Piggy 猪腥味 and Clean Tasting. All the other Different Various Spare Parts were Nicely Cooked.

Soup Broth has a Nice Delicious Slightly Sharp Mustard Green 酸菜味. Admittedly not Super Mind Blowing, but this is an Above Average Decent Quality Soup Broth.

The Chilli they have here tastes Very Different compared to the Type of Chilli we have in Pig Organ Soup in Singapore. For one thing, its mixed with a Dark Soy Sauce, Much Thicker in Texture and Sharply Salty intead of Sourish.

A Tad Stronger in Spiciness too as it will Gently Bite your Tongue with a Heat that Lingers Longer. Nice Chilli Mix they got here, and I feel also pairs well with 猪杂汤.

Ok I've described EVERYTHING but their Actual 招牌 Yam Rice. How does it actually taste?

Pretty Meh actually.

Firstly, I wasn't impressed with the Amount of Rice they gave for their Default Bowl. Amount looks Quite Stingy with maybe at most only about 4 Tablespoons?

I'll be Very Honest, other than maybe a Slightly Fluffier Texture, I dont think this Yam Rice really taste any different from our Singapore Version. In fact I even feel the Yam Taste here is slightly more Subdued in comparison to some Yam Rice we have in SG.

No Offence, but I have No Idea why this is considered Michelin Standard. This tastes like Very Common SG Kopitiam Level of Yam Rice. Hahaha, maybe the Michelin Inspector never eat Yam Rice before?

Barley (Hot, No Sugar) = RM2.00

This Eatery surprisingly don't sell any Coffee so I ordered this. Taste quite Meh, tbh kindda taste abit Dilluted even. Doesn't even have any Barley Oat Groats within. I don't feel this is worth the Money. Skip this.

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts

At the Price of RM13.00 (S$3.90), this is an Affordable and Above Average Bowl of 猪杂汤 with what is I believe the Most Comprehensive Listing of Pig Spare Parts I've ever eaten so far. It is worth the Price because of how Comprehensive it is. You're getting Almost Every Part of the Pig right here.

Amusingly, the Most Disappointing Item is their Literal 招牌 Michelin-Awarded Yam Rice. Amount felt so Stingy and the Taste really tasted Very Meh in my opinion. Because of how Stingy the Portion of Rice was, I actually felt 吃不饱 when I was here.

That said, this is still a Above Average Quality Pig Organ Soup and if you have a Craving for it while you're in the Area, sure why not give this a try. Definitely not worth Queuing Up for sure though.

Kitty and I were on a road trip tfrom thialand hrough Malaysia, and we were excited to finally make it to Bukit Mertajam. We had planned our lunch stop at BM Yam Rice Kopitiam, a place known for its authentic Penang cuisine. We later learned that it had even earned a Michelin "Selected" recognition, and it was famous for its yam rice.

Walking into BM Yam Rice Kopitiam, we were greeted by a lively and bustling atmosphere. The air was filled with the delicious aroma of yam rice, and a flurry of chatter and laughter from the locals filled the space. It was clear that this was a beloved institution in Bukit Mertajam.

The atmosphere was welcoming and friendly, and even though it was a bit noisy, the fans kept the place cool enough for a comfortable dining experience.

We couldn't resist trying their signature dish, the yam rice. It was a revelation. The yam rice was cooked to perfection, boasting a strong shrimp flavor and a satisfyingly chewy texture. The accompanying pork broth was a delightful blend of briny and sweet, enhanced by the tangy depth of pickled cabbage. We also ordered the pork trotter, which was tender and flavorful, the braised tofu in soy sauce, which was a comforting classic, and the mixed organ pork soup.

The service was efficient and friendly, and the staff made sure we had a pleasant dining experience. We were surprised by how affordable the prices were, especially considering the Michelin "Selected" recognition.

Overall, we enjoyed our experience at BM Yam Rice Kopitiam. It's a great choice for anyone in Bukit Mertajam seeking a taste of authentic Penang cuisine. The yam rice is a must try, and the other dishes we had were equally delicious. The atmosphere is a vibrant reflection of the local culture, and the service is friendly and efficient. However, the noise level could be a bit overwhelming for some. We highly recommend this kopitiam for a delicious and authentic Penang...

BM Yam Rice Kopitiam: A Delicious Dive into Dannok Dim Sum in Bukit Mertajam (4/5 Stars)

Rating:

• Food: 4/5 (Delicious and authentic Dannok Dim Sum, with standout dishes like the Yam rice, pig organ soup, and braised pig trotter) • Service: 3/5 (Friendly and efficient, but could be more attentive) • Ambiance: 4/5 (Casual and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed meal with friends) • Value: 4/5 (Reasonable prices for the quality of food)

Overall: 4/5

Alright folk, Recently, Donkey & I with a group of friends made the trip to BM Yam Rice Kopitiam, a popular Dannok Dim Sum spot located at 7, Jalan Murthy, 14000 Bukit Mertajam, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia. We were eager to try their authentic Dannok Dim Sum, and we weren't disappointed!

The highlight of our meal was definitely the pig organ soup, which was flavorful and comforting. The braised pig trotter and braised intestine were also incredibly delicious, cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. But for me, the star of the show was the Yam rice. It was simply divine! The unique blend of flavors and textures was truly satisfying, making it a dish I would highly recommend.

The atmosphere at BM Yam Rice Kopitiam was casual and welcoming, perfect for a relaxed meal with friends. The service was friendly and efficient, and the prices were reasonable for the quality of the food.

Overall, I would highly recommend BM Yam Rice Kopitiam to anyone looking for a taste of authentic Dannok Dim Sum in Bukit Mertajam. The pig organ soup, braised pig trotter, and braised intestine are all worth trying, but the Yam rice is a must-order! Their...

PSA : Turn right just immediately just before reaching the restaurant. There's a limited area to park. Also don't be disheartened if you find the main shop full. Walk to the back, there's a door to go into the adjoining building where there's even more tables to sit at. Finally, ordering needs to be done self service at the entrance. Don't wait for anyone to come at your table to get your orders As for their food, I simply love the soup. Light and tasty, the superb balance of salt and sourness is simply divine. You choose your own combination for the content but I decided on everything. Including offals. I must say that their meat and offal is fresh. And cooked perfectly. That includes their braised egg and tofu. Tasty gravy and delicious tofu. What surprised me was actually their sambal tumis. Heavy on prawn taste and perfectly spiced, simply a great condiment for the meat. As for the environment, it's a little uncomfortable. Hot and humid. It's something that needs to get used to. The decor is very old style. Simple and minimum. However, it's surprisingly much cleaner than I expected. If there's anything they should improve, it's their drinks. I know that this is supposed to be a yam rice review but drinks do play an integral part of a meal. Their drinks are unacceptably watery and that's before the ice in it melted and diluted it even more. But having said all that, just on the basis of the yam rice and the classical old style coffee shop in the hot tropical heat, this is definitely a nostalgic throwback to meals that I used to enjoy decades ago.
