The three of us had lunch at Kapitan Tandoori based on reviews online. The shop is quite spacious and there is plenty of parking as it is slightly away from the busy government offices of Bandar Perda. The shop looks decent and as it is a corner lot, it was not stuffy. The cooks worked at a corner of the shop and therefore smoke from cooking did not collect in the restaurant.
We ordered a claypot beef beriyani, a milani chicken with garlic butter naan and a tandoori chicken with butter naan. In addition, we also ordered two teh tariks which we asked for kurang, kurang manis.
We were very pleased that the teh tariks were done with minimal sugar. The claypot beef beriyani arrived first. We note that the use of claypot is probably just a vessel to contain the food, i.e. the beriyani was not actually cooked in the claypot. Having said that, the beriyani rice was cooked perfectly and aromatic. We would be happy to just eat the rice without the dhal curry or the beef. The beef, while flavourful, was rather dry. Fortunately, it was not too chewy.
The naans arrived next. We love the naans, which were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The melted butter really enhanced the flavour. Between the two, we liked the garlic butter naan best, not that the butter naan is not good. The tandoori chicken was aromatic and had the smokiness of barbequed meat over charcoal. The accompanying mint and dhal was alright, though a little too sweet for our liking. The milani chicken on the other hand was soaked in delicious creamy cheese sauce. Unfortunately, the fries which accompanied the dish were also soaked in the sauce and were soggy. It would have been better if the fries were placed away from the sauce.
On the whole, we found the place a worthwhile place for another visit. Prices are fair and the...
Read moreThe restaurant with the WORST SERVICE in the whole of Penang
Everytime I come here, the waiters need to be called 2-3 times before they even walk come lazily to give you the menu
The waiters don't look like they want to work here and the service is very bad
But I don't think about it much because the food is good no doubt. But today sets a new record
When I ordered bungkus my unfinished food, the waiter came to my table and when I passed him my food, he said wait
And I waited for 15 minutes, until I called the cashier who then came and check
They came to me and ask me if I ordered bungkus. I said THIS is the food (the unfinished food) I want to bungkus. And I scolded both the waiter and cashier. This is what happens when they do not take their work seriously.
When I went to pay, the lady cashier was of course unprofessional, did not say how much, and just diam all the way. The professional SOP should be saying out how much I'm supposed to pay. And when I said RM18 right to reconfirm. She just diam je.
I took my food and threw it in the dustbin because after you scolded the waiter, basically the food cannot be guaranteed don't have saliva.
If the boss of Kapitan franchise is reading this, a friendly feedback from customer, you need to revamp the whole staff. The service is really teruk as through you just leave it there to earn money without caring for it.
Will not visit again, there are mamak food with better...
Read moreTried the milani chicken with garlic butter naan, tandoori chicken with garlic butter naan, and masala tea. The milani chicken was essentially a chicken chop with some kind of yellow cream sauce. The chicken was nice and tender and it went pretty well with the pesto and chili oil served on the side. Personally, i didn't think the milani lived up to much hype i read about. The tandoori chicken, however, was easily the best i've ever had. I ate the breast meat and was blown away by the flavour and how wonderfully tender it was! Didn't require any sauce. Really great tandoori chicken! The masala tea was nice and fragrant, but too sweet for my liking. Overall, it was a great 24h place with generous portions of food that'll leave you satisfied. Oh, and if you're worried about the service, i suggest just embracing it all and admire their unique working style...
